Vonage has free calls to Europe now too! France, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the UK are included. God bless technology that benefits the consumers.

Why not use Skype instead? It's free for the entire world when both have it. Alternatively, if only one person has it then he or she can use it to call a regular phone for a low cost (around 2 cents per minute).
There's also a fairly new service called jah-jah or ya-ya or something like that, where both can use regular phones for free (I think you enter both numbers on a website, and then the service calls both in order to establish the connection between them).

that's the downfall right there, us geek types, it's no big deal. Joe schmoe america wants to pick up his regular home phone and call everyone and anyone for free. Or for the 25 bucks a month. It will be interesting to see how both services evolve in the next 2-4 years.

I've had the Vonage to Europe for a while now. It's only for calls through to landlines and calls to cell phones are fairly cheap.
We love it cause we both have friends in the UK and it used to cost a fortune to call over there. And Meggy's fiance travels all the time so there's always long distance calls all over. He was recently in Japan and it was only 6 cents a minute to call him. It really helps a lot. The only problem with Vonage is the sound quality is sometimes bad. But it's cheap so I can put up with it. "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind"-Dr Seuss
