Tom

If you're about to install Windows XP Service Pack 1, be warned...

To those of you running pirated copies of Windows XP (WHICH I AM NOT, MINE CAME WITH MY DELL FYI), if you install the new Windows XP Service Pack 1 (which Windows Update may encourage you to do) and reboot, you will not be able to load up Windows.

Just so some of you dont loose your important files...

I'm only sharing this info because Microsoft is shady.

wink

Somehow I doubt that Dell is shipping pirated software with their computers. smile

[Update: Oops, never mind... I misread Tom's message. Sorry 'bout that.]

Hehheh, for what I paid for my Dell, it better be a legit copy lol. Seriously though, I frequent alot of sites dealing with Microsoft, security, hacking, etc, and came across this and was a bit apprehensive.

I'm not gonna preach on the ethics of using pirated software. But I know what its like being a former student, to be expected to shell out thousands of dollars for software. Even with student discounts, programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, Office, etc can get ridiculous.

In fact, many employers have pirated copies of Windows on their computers. So you may want to think twice about updating your computer at work, because you can possibly run into alot of problems. Ask your boss first.

Good. I will gladly install Sp1 because I do not mooch like that. Luckily, my copy is government provided and licensed, so I'm golden smile

ANywho, this is nothing different than Blizzard kicking and threatening to deactivate all the cd keys of people who unfairly use the map hack for Warcraft III.

Don't hate the playas, hate the game.

In fairness, I don't think Prince.org is interested in providing info regarding pirated software. Read the forum rules here:

http://www.prince.org/msg/rules.html

However I'll lock the thread (instead of removing it) so your informative post will still be here for all to see.
