When Rachel and I got engaged, we were both in college where we were both paying rent, tuition and books, and barely getting by, and I wasn't prepared to spend tons more money on a rock. I did get her a diamond ring, but it was one of the smaller diamonds that they had, and that was perfectly fine with Rachel. No one needs a rock the size of a marble on their finger when one quite a bit smaller means just as much. I agree about the size/cost doesn't matter part, but I just felt the need to say this I don't like those rings with a tiny little solitaire diamond in them, that you can hardly see. I say diamond, I wouldnt like them no matter the stone. They're really little! I would rather have a ring with a bigger stone, I couldnt care less if its a real diamond or not. At the end of the day, Im the one whos gotta wear it forever! I'd rather have a massive aquamarine or pink topaz than an invisible diamond, for a fraction of the price. Why does it have to be diamond? Or is that the same as we *have* to get married in white? In a church? But thats just me, and my preference! Because it's a tradition, and a romantic one at that. Now, I'm generally not all that traditional a girl, but there are certain things I get all girly for. A beautiful diamond ring is one of them. I don't need one. And if I ever find anyone crazy enough to want to marry me and he doesn't have the funds for one, I'm not gonna cry over it. But it's a lovely tradition, although I agree it can get carried away sometimes. |

I guess I would just rather have the ring itself, the shape, that I want, than the diamond part. (being single and all!) Rock n roll baby

To all the guys who have do deal with flipout cases tomorrow, good luck Heck no! As long as my man does something that tells me he loves me, and was thinking of me, cost doesn't matter. With a man as forgetful as mine, anything with thought put into it scores serious points! exactly!!!!

I think it is as silly as Mother's Day/Father's Day; I treated my mom with respect always, buying her pressies whenever I could.
I see a reason to have animal day, like we have here in Holland, mainly for kids; it is good to raise awareness with kids that they have to be good to animals, treat them with respect. I am not into Valentine's Day, really. But I must be honest and tell you that if I had fancied someone, it might be different... The fun part of it is working in a store that sells cards; the Valentine cards sell like crazy. And it is GREAT to chime, time after time; "The postal services and Halmark appreciate your financial support! Thank you" If I sell one to a customer I know (so they are used to my every day sarcasm) I add; "Thank you for being so gullible! Have a nice day"

i only remembered valentines day today because i was supposed to buy valentines cards for my son for his 1st grade class but i didn't feel like walking through the snow lastnight. hopefully the other parents picked up my slack . btw. it really doesnt matter. i don't hate valentines day, it just seems like a unimportant holiday like president's day or polaski day, days that are excuses for public school to get out. its nice to be treated sweetly on that day but i get that all the time so its not a necessity.

Naw!
However, I do have friends that get so carried away with the day. I went shopping with a friend this weekend, and she just had to buy a pair of those g string panties. I said "wtf is a 58 year old gonna do with those?" ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^
