Stop eating until you can see your ribcage quite distinctly, you're dizzy and weak all of the time and you're growing fine, downy hair all over your body. If you do eat something, make sure you go to the bathroom immediately and throw it up.

You probably have to gain muscle weight, not lose the fat weight. Just exercise, do sit-ups if you can stand them. Pilates and yoga are good too.

Try writing "you are beautiful" on your mirror in lipstick, then looking in it more often. Unless your doctor tells you to lose weight, you're fine.

I've been there sad With the steroids thing. Prednisone (sp?) is the most evil drug ever invented. But, it gets better. Kind of.

I've still got scars neutral

If you are fat, and happy, then be fat and happy. If you are thin and happy, be thin and happy. Don't let the world make you feel bad about yourself. If you don't like what you see in the mirror, and it truly comes from a concern of self, then make the change if it is good for you.

I am chubby and kinda not liking being chubby, so I am trying to lose. I have even switched to vegan burgers!

prescription steroids. the reason why is long and complicated, but i had a very serious illness in 1994. went off the roids in dec 94 and i'm still fighting the effects: weird weight fluctuations, stretch marks, very sudden and odd outbreaks of acne all over for a day or 2.

it just sucks.

Oh, I'm sorry Aaron. I wasn't thinking of those kinds of steroids. I thought you meant beefy steroids.

I think Doctor's prescribe way too many pills these days. Half of the people on pills for depression could probably be cured by just exercising regularly. And many dr's don't know enough about new drugs that are coming out but prescribing them anyway.

one of the very saddest tings i've ever heard was recently when my five year old neice asked me "do i look fat?" in her new two piece bathing suit

fucked up society we have when it comes to body image. half of us obese, the other half anorexic or bulimic. . .

how do you protect a child from that?!

Running and a steady diet. How tall are you???100lbs seems very small. If you can,do weight training with reps of 15 and no more than 18.The key to a good waisteline and abs is running.I do two miles a day when i go to the gym(it took awhile but the 6 pack is back).I said RUNNING not WALKING.You can start by walking but work your way up to jogging and eventually running.Guaranteed to "C" the difference.

I've never taken steroids(although i have been curious).I would only do them if i were getting paid for competition.I could "C" myself at 230lbs if i was on them and i'm only six feet.

4 once I happen 2 agree with Aaron.

What is this 90210? Cripe...maybe u should think about what society has brainwashed u 2 admire, suby. I can c the discriminatory practices used in stores that don't carry my size (size 11/12 jeans) Mind u, I am 5'7" Im a healthy weight 4 some1 my age and height. I made a thread about this that was totally thrown back in2 my face. At the end of the day I was blamed 4 being "insecure" or "fat". No1 wanted 2 c the unfairness of it all. As a consumer we deserve 2 have our size in there!

I suggest u b happy that at least u can go 2 the store and find dozens of clothes ur size. wink

In some ways I agree with you, in other ways I don't. First, my agreement. We've never had more medication choices, for treatment of both real and imagined illnesses, as we do right now. With less time to spend with patients, and higher patient expectations for immediate relief, I fear that many physicians jump to the prescription pad.

Yes, there are probably too many pills being prescribed for problems that could be managed with lifestyle changes, but whose fault is that? Here are some examples that come to mind:

  • Those people who suffer from asthma or emphysema linked to smoking, but they continue to smoke and request medication to ease their shortness of breath. It happens ALL THE TIME.

  • Many with hypertension linked to a sedentary lifestyle, high fat/salt diet, and obesity. A regular exercise program may solve the problem, but what should the doctor do about the blood pressure while waiting for the patient to make the lifestyle changes? Most prescribe medication - appropriately.

  • Same problem with elevated cholesterol. The lifestyle advice is easily given, but most won't follow it. Consequently, the cholesterol lowering drug lipitor is one of this country's most widely prescribed medications - and we think it's saving lives.

  • Another classic scenario (this one deals with education, not lifestyle changes) is the overuse of antibiotics for nonbacterial infections. The classic case is the young, worried male or female with a severe sore throat who demands "antibiotics" from the physician. Often, when the physician judgement is that the problem is viral, and it won't be improved with antibiotics, the patient will insist on an antibiotic, wanting to "cover all possibilities."

Regarding the idea that some physicans don't know enough about new drugs, but prescribe them anyway. Wow, that could never be defended, but it should be very uncommon. Physicians generally manage problems that they are familiar with, and refer unusual problems to other specialists. No one can know about all medications, side effects, interactions, and the latest releases, but a good physician will only prescribe a medicine that he/she is very knowledgable about, or will consult an appropriate reference when questions arise. If you don't have that sort of confidence with your physician, definitely find another one.
