Harlan Ellison Documentary. I don't know if you remember, but a while back I was talking about my favorite writer, Harlan Ellison. He now has a documentary, which is a look at his vast, rich life. Looks like a kick ass film. Hope it plays here.
Here you can see the trailer. http://www.creatvdiff.com...llison.php All you others say Hell Yea!! | |

I think Harlan Ellison hits mental walls when he tries to critique Close Encounters of the Third Kind. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

The movie kills the earthly notion of god. And family. It shows that "god" and "angels" can be something else besides the literal, stiff bible... I know that it was more than religious thing to me in third grade, and far more powerful than any bible story. It's also about the deeply personal meaning and the obsessive drive to explore wisps and tugs of your mind that results in art. It's about being an artist. And how a true artist is driven to understand and complete through great effort and singlemindedness. It's also about the deeply personal and individualistic (lonely) way in which something we witness or experience can sometime only be glorious and meaningful to us alone. Others will miss it, or cannot perceive it. on my own personal note: Even without regard to the plot. I could just meditate on my aesthetic appreciation and the emotions it triggered. I'm well aware of the new abstracted "meaning" that the movie imparted straight to the brain with it's startling choice of texture, light/colors, and sound all cunningly spoonfed to you into acceptance because it was bundled with a dose of detailed and seemingly authentic depiction of suburban reality of the time. but I may be silly!
