The Muppets - Live! New Series Set To Breath New Life Into Beloved Puppets

"YAAAAAY!" excited

The Muppets Live! New Series Breathes New Life into Beloved Puppets

We literally screamed, "That's incredible!" when our friend told us that The Muppets are coming back to television. Totally fucking rad, right? But, wait, there's more: the fuzzy creatures won't be doing the tired variety show routine. Rather, they're doing a little reality show. The revered Muppet Central News reports:

The short pilot uses the television syntax of a documentary (think The Office meets The Muppet Show). The series revolves around Kermit the Frog as he attempts to reassemble the Muppet troupe and launch a new Muppet show. The mockumentary mini-series would feature fictional English filmmaker Ian Bascombe who, with his film crew, follow the daily happenings Kermit and the Muppets, both on and off stage. Bascombe finds that many of the classic Muppets have gone off to other venues since we last saw them and follows Kermit as the frog attempts to track them down and get the whole troupe back together.

We're totally pumped. And you should be, too. Seriously, if you don't have a special place in your heart for the Muppets, you're not human. If that's the case, we're sorry to hear that. Must be hard getting a date.

Didn't Robot Chicken do an episode on this???

Well if Ms Piggy is a divorced alcoholic and Animal a homeless junkie it could be interesting, overall though it sounds like a bad idea.

Sigh.

Pimp Your Muppet. In how many ways can they fuck up our favourite characters?

I haven't seen it, but don't have to. Every movie or projects or action concerning The Muppets after Henson's death is a catastrophe, in my eyes.

The only thing that could have made it was The Muppets Tonight; but running with mostly lame new characters and skits in combination with cutting the show short too soon killed it;s momentum.

Common, the first season of The Mupper Show hardly featured Miss Piggy, for example. Some characters need time to develop and commercial need cut the show short; I loved Randy & Andy and Pepe & Seymour; they had room to grow into something way more.

And don't get me started on the tv specials and movies; they make me angry.

I remember being in Disney's MGM studios in Orlando and sitting through the great Muppet Show. When they played the Rainbow connection and the short tribute to Jim Hensen at the end of the show, half of the adults in the audience were crying.

It woulda made me cry. sad

I have to say, this sounds exciting, but I'm skeptical too. It's undoubtedly not what it once was.
