I think so too-it's really kind of sad how they are portraying this whole matter.

I think it's a breath of fresh air that the media is covering this kind of thing instead of the normal depressive and sensationalist things like the Genicide in Darfur, Taliban ressurgence in Afganistan, slave trade in American Mariana Islands (Saipan), ongoing Dow Chemical disaster affecting thousands of families in Bopal India, forced female circumcisions in northern Africa, and all that other depressing drivel we would otherwise be talking about.

The media seems to enjoy it more when untalented people are dead than when talented ones die. I don't recall James Brown or Ray Charles recieving half of this attention.
clever clever quotation - attention getting quote - sad yet witty remark - look at me! Im deep quote- song lyric about my ex cause that bitch stole my mp3 player! - line from movie I liked - Prince lyric - not very clever sig mocking other sigs

It's like one of those shark feeding frenzies. All this focus on a pathetic, untalented, drug-addicted mess. Ridiculous.

I hear what you are saying, but out of respect for the dead I'll refrain from calling her adjectives. But I do agree with your overall idea.

I know our society has a fascination with the rich & famous, but I can't take this media coverage - she's on all the channels, front page on every newspaper, and that hotel has become Ground Zero with all the paparazzi scum. People die every day - her death is no more important than a soldier dying in Iraq, a cop dying on the job, or that little angel whose father beat her then left her in the snow to die.

To me, Anna Nicole's story is a perfect example of what NOT to do with one's life.

WillyWonka

I find it sad how the media has sunk to such a bottomfeeder mentality, where sensationalistic and salacious "journalism" reigns and much of the general public laps it up like sweaty, grunting pigs at a trough.

No matter what one felt for Anna Nicole, she was a human being who has died. She deserves the same dignity we all would want in death.

It's surreal,
because last night I caught a glimpse of some guy on Fox News saying that the media puts so much emphasis on things like global warming & what-not, that society is ignoring the plight of troubled celebrities like Anna-Nicole Smith.

After hearing that,
I looked around for a gat to put in my mouth,
but I couldn't find any.

So's I just switched off the channel
& played with my wii.

smile Larry King said the exact same thing then went on to interview (for the 4th time this month) Susan Sommers and her posh burnt down house....

What bugged me about it most was the fact that the psuedo-journalists were constantly bemoaning how she was a "talentless oddity" who was famous because she was famous.....the Paris Hilton Syndrome, they call it nowadays....yet I was confused because it was the psuedo media that made her famous and built her into that talentless oddity/celebrity...

I'm just a bit more concerned about how our helicopters keep getting shot down and how badly Nancy Pelosi keeps trying to screw up the Dem's big November win....

I'm not an expert or anything,
but I'm sure that there can be quite a substantial increase in the global temperature whenever a celebrity's house burns down.

I have heard of that...I also heard that if a celeb does not get properly compensated for a movie role our economy suffers dearly...

I don't watch TV, but from what I hear, it has taken the focus off of Prince's alledgedly 'lewd' guitar playing at the Superbowl. smile I don't really watch TV because I don't have cable and most 'news' shows are full of too much celebrity gossip. Britney Spears flashing her junk should not be on the news. ANS should not be news. There are far more important matters to worry about--global warming, AIDS crisis, etc...
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I agree. There are so many things going on in the world. It's sad that her daughter has to grow up without a mother, and that they are already fighting over who will "be her Daddy".

But let's put everything into perspective: We have spent the better part of this week arguing over these "important issues":
whether or not the Twinz can dance,
whether or not a do-rag should be worn in the rain,
whether turquoise & orange match,
and whether or not the set list worked....

I guess it's all what people find important. shrug

I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

I never saw anything about the guitar incident. I guess we don't give a crap about stupid shit like that around these parts.

Usually when celebrities die, I feel at least a little sad but for some reason I'm really not feeling anything about her. I feel bad for her daughter and that's about it. I'm interested to find out what the autopsy results are, if they are ever released.

And of course the "Daddies" don't care about that kid. They're salivating over the loot she stands to inherit.

I personally never heard or saw anything about it except for here & at HQ; but one of my volunteers at work, who knows I am a big Prince fan, heard about it somewhere and asked me. New York is very into celebrity gossip. confused
