The Soup Thread

What kinds of soup do you like? I like just about any kind of soup, except for plain tomato soup. ill I don't mind a tomato-based soup with other stuff in it, but tomato soup by itself is yucky.

I went to a new restaurant called "Zoup" and got an Italian soup with vegetables in it. It was pretty good. The name of the restaurant made me think of the Seinfeld episode with the Soup Nazi, and I was kind of wondering if I would see one there. I didn't. lol

Edited to add that I just found their website: http://zoup.com/. Apparently, their home office is in Michigan.

falloff I once watched someone I know take plain tomato soup and make it the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. They put like the whole can in the pan, cooked it, then dumped it all in this giant bowl. Then they took cheddar cheese from the fridge and put half the bag in the bowl, along with a ton of pepper and (I think it was) bacon bits. Then they put about 3/4 of a strip of crackers (no joke) in there and ate it. It looked so nasty when they were done lol

But yeah, the phrase "plain tomato soup" made me laugh because of that... eek

TGI Fridays used to have a Chicken & Artichoke Soup that was my favorite. Rockne's makes a good Black Bean Soup with sausage in it.

and of course there's Wedding Soup...

my fave soup (well, basically it's the only one i make lol)

shitake & chicken soup with arame and quinoa

drool

you'll need some shitake mushrooms (about 2 cups)
a chicken filet, cooked and diced in small cubes
about 3 table spoons of coarsely crushed arame
about 3 table spoons aduki beans (soaked)
carrot cubes
bok choy strips
dried ginger, ground
salt, pepper
chives, lemon grass (fresh)
and about a handfull of quinoa grains.

just start with the chicken,
add the beans and the arame
add shi takes (soaked)
add carrots
add ginger, salt, pepper
add lemon grass
add quinoa grains
add bok choy
add chives

you can add soy or miso to taste
if you like.

Anx

soup is totally a mood thing for me.

sometimes i like a really simple miso soup - i don't even need the tofu cubes or the chives or whatever - just a very simple brothy soup.

sometimes i like tomato soup with a whole sleeve of crackers crumbled into it, so it's more of a cracker gumbo paste than it is a soup. then i dump cayenne pepper into it. drool

sometimes i like butternut squash soup cuz it's a little sweet...and i usually prefer to drink it out of an oversized coffee mug.

is chili considered a soup? that would be my FAVORITE.

oh, and corn chowder. yum.
