Football is probably the most popular sport in America, but people still spend more time watching and attending baseball games so it's still probably the "national pasttime" in that regaurd. This is because there are 162 games compared to 16.

Basketball doesn't even register. The popularity of basketball has been falling for the last 5 or 6 years. That's why the NBA had to take less money when the television contract expired this year.

Anyone ever watch or see Irelands national sport called Hurling. Its the fastest field sport in the world. There are 15 to a side.Goalposts like soccer goals only the posts have uprights about 10m into the air like rugby. All 30 players have sticks and the object is to beat a leather ball into or over the goals.Imagine 30 savages beating the shit out of each other with hurleys to hit the ball.It makes. It is the most exciting game to watch and the roughest.

Football Easily Nowadays.Baseball is my Favorite Sport but it is lost in a time warp with it's marketing&handling itself.all Major Sports have Parity but there is something about Football that gets the Blood Flowing more than the others for me.Baseball there are only 6 Legit Teams that truly have a Shot at Winning it all&maybe 1 or 2 others that might make some noise. Basketball has like 5-6 Legit Teams&Only 1 that is a Dynasty the Lakers.Boxing has as many Belts as College Football has Bowl Games&that has watered the Sport IMHO.Tennis is all about the Williams Sisters. Golf is Tiger.Race Car Driving is Huge but not a Past time IMHO.Football made "Parity" Cool other Sports aren't as lucky IMHO.

You are exactly right... fuck all those sanctioning bodies... there should be ONE champion per division.

Popularity-wise it's football, basketball, then baseball. Football first because it's such a physical sport they can only play once a week 16 times (more if they get to the playoffs of course) - there's time for fan anticipation. Baseball has NO credibility anymore because of the always constant threats to strike every few years and the many players taking steroids. Among other things that insults an intelligent fan's intelligence. The game itself is fine, if you're not talking about MLB. What a crock MLB has become. GET 'EM OUT!
