what's your dream home? If money were no object, obviously.
I want a big, sprawling Victorian monstrosity. The kind once owned by rich people, complete with a servant's staircase and everything. All the original features would be intact. The only remodeling allowed would be practical updates for electricity and such. BUT I'd want the whole thing painted in obnoxious, mis-matched, decidely un-Victorian colours. Hot pink and lime green and electric blue and lemon yellow. Because I think it'd be fun. Picture the house is Elvira: Mistress of the Dark and you've about got what I want. How about you guys? in all seriousness... Mach's house, as it turns out, is exactly what my dreamhome has been since I was a child

i've always loved the older houses you see in l.a., the ones built in the 50s-60s that cost way too much money now.

Just an average size, 4 bedroom, two story house.
I don't want much and I am not a fan of big houses with tons of wasted space. I think the trend in those massive bungalows with the high ceilings are ridiculous, so big and just open empty space that holds nothing but air.

if in the city, i'm happy with a nice, semi-spacious pre-war apartment with good sunlight, good water pressure and good location.
if not in the city, i'd love to have a really old farmhouse out in the middle of nowhere - very rustic, very simple and clean. i'd have a porch swing and everything would smell of verbena. that's all i ask.

1. Ocean view, with nobody around who could see me.
2. Boat house with a jetty, a sailboat and a small speedboat. 3. Mostly cliffs by the water but also a strip of sandy beach. 4. Lush garden with small pathways leading through flowers and big plants. 5. The actual house would be fairly big, in different levels and with plenty of customized rooms: film screening room, relaxation room, writer's den, spa, big kitchen, comfy guest room, veranda with detachable glass walls, and - because of my paranoia - a bomb shelter with lots of supplies, backup generator, fresh water filter etc.

Ex-Moderator | I have no clue.
I can appreciate beautiful homes when I see them, but it's not something I ever think/dream/fantasize about. |

Victorian. Like, I love the house in the movie 'Pracital Magic'.
Or, this one: I would love it to have 11 ft ceilings, cozy formal and family rooms, 3-4 bedroom suites, a greenhouse, gardens... Near the water, but also within walking distance of the heart of the village. A happy place. A place where having locks on the doors is just a suggestion.

Ok, I do like neat old houses as well, but I can't help but think about all the work they need. I love all the cool details they usually have...like antique glass doorknobs. I really would love to start collecting those.
