A Mac should serve your needs just fine. I've got a three-year-old 12" PowerBook that's still running strong. Although I'm interested in the new Intel-powered Macs, I kinda prefer my current machine, because Apple no longer makes a laptop this small. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

Whatever system you get, make sure you bump up the memory, and get the best screen available. Most computer packages seem to only put the bare minimum or a small amount of memory in the system. Some of the less expensive laptops have crappy screens that aren't very bright and kind of shimmer when move a little

do you know anything about HPs and Compaqs? they're from the same company, right? so is there any difference in the quality? HP and Compaq and eMachines are all under the same umbrella. I don't really know how they vary in quality from one name brand to the next though. eMachines used to be really cheap ass systems, but the ones I've seen lately look a lot nicer. Just from personal experience, with all the HP computers we have at work, I'm not really partial to them. We have both Dells and HP's, and every one of our HP's has broken down and had to have something replaced on it over the past couple years. My boss just bought a brand new HP tower last summer, and the mother board and hard drive went bad in December - he didn't even have it for a year. The Dell's I've owned as well as the ones we have at work have always been more reliable. But their sales and customer support are a nightmare nowdays. The Dell web site, as well as their phone menus are a complete maze, and when or if you finally do connect with someone, it's usually a person overseas that can barely speak english. You might want to try visiting CNet and reading their reviews on various systems. They are usually pretty accurate and point out specific flaws in systems that you may not realize when shopping for one.

No prob. I made a mistake tho, it was actually Gateway that bought out eMachines, not HP.
