I agree that he should have lost for turning it into a track meet at the end, but he totally outclassed Trinidad through the first half of the fight... I don't know why he thought that he could sit on his lead... Vargas took a really bad KO at the hands of Trinidad... it was beautiful. SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com

My reasoning behind picking DLH to win the fight is this: DLH is a far superior boxer DLH is faster than Vargas DLH is a five division champion with much more experience DLH is a smart boxer and will not engage in a war if he doesn't need to Vargas is a natural 154 pounder, so the size advantage is definitely his. He also has greater natural power, but DLH has a very good chin, so I don't think that this will be a problem. I don't actually believe that DLH will KO Vargas... I think that he will win a unanimous decision after a technical fight. If DLH does get a KO it will be because Vargas is taking this fight far too personally and is overhyped. DLH is very calm about the fight and should keep his head. If Vargas is as hyped as he seems, he will probably make mistakes that allow DLH to capitalize. We all know that Vargas gets knocked down a LOT. DLH has the power to knock him down too and if DLH gets a couple of knockdowns in addition to outboxing him for 12 rounds, the decision should be unanimous in favor of DLH. I don't see Vargas knocking DLH out or outboxing him, so I still have to go with DLH. I could be wrong... I have been before SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com

Though I'd love 2 see this fight, I hate Pay Per View! I'll wait the week out, then they'll show it on HBO.
My prediction: De La Hoya by decision...as usual. |

I would love to see that too, but Vargas is a natural 154 pounder while DLH has come up five weight divisions during his career. He doesn't have the natural power that Vargas has, so that would be dangerous for him. I don't expect him to do it. Remember what happened to DLH when he fought Sugar Shane Mosley? He thought that he had enough power to deal with Shane and got his ass handed to him... and that was at Welterweight instead of Light Middleweight. I expect a technical boxing match from DLH in this one. SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com

IceNine, I agree with most of your points. But, I think the main reason Oscar will beat Vargas is because...as in the Trinidad fight, Fernando was hurt mostly with left hooks. We went down quite a few times at the hands of Tito with that very punch.
With that being said, which punch is Oscar's best??? That's right, the LEFT HOOK!! I can tell you right now, Fernando will be KO's by a series of left hooks in Round 4. BTW, IceNine...Props on your knowledge of the sport. You know what you're talking about. Strike

Yeah, me to Ice. I have been watching boxing since I was a little kid. And, being into my 30's now, I can say it's been quite a while!!
Yeah, that Gatti/Ward II fight should be great!! I know the first one was...I'd pick Ward (again) by late rounds stoppage. He's just too busy for Gatti (being he cuts very easily), and he would be forced to retire because of those cuts. But, getting back to Hoya/Vargas, this one is gonna be the shit!! I live in L.A., and have followed both quite closely since they have been pros. And, I just think Oscar has more of an upside then Fernando. Plus, Vargas is to emotional to pace himself, and far too undisciplined to outbox Hoya. Well, that and the fact that I think Tito ruined him (as he did with Reid). Again, that's why I pick Oscar by 4th round KO (no, not TKO...KO)!!!

Hey Ice, i see that Roy Jones Jnr won again the other day but I only caught the end of the fight.
Did he really say that he is going to move up another weight division? When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Did he really say that he is going to move up another weight division? He will not do it, but he claimed that he wanted to fight John Ruiz for the Heavyweight championship... this would be a jump of two weight divisions, as he is a light heavyweight. I find it unlikely that he will fight Ruiz because he refused to fight Vasily Jirov for the Cruiserweight championship and that is only one division higher. He is just talking shit again. I think Ruiz won the first fight, but was robbed
of the decision. Holyfield is so hard to fight, mostly because he's such a dirty fighter. He leads with his head and elbows all the time. Ruiz is disappointing to me, because he hasn't improved on his skills. He has a GREAT opportunity, being the first latino heavyweight champion, to show the world his culture. He's got the size, and has good movement, but i don't think his heart is into boxing...which is a shame, because, we latino's are revered for our heart's in the ring. Holyfield is a Complex Fighter in the Vein of a Ken Norton Sr IMHO.but Holyfield has problems with SouthPaws&Cats that Stick&Jab Him.Holyfield has been Shot since that 2nd Tyson Fight IMHO.He should have Retired then.He Pimped a WIn Versus Ruiz the first time.Ruiz in that last Fight was the Floppy Vlade Divac to me.He can Brawl but that doesn't make a Great Fighter just ask Razor Ruddick&Before Him Ernie Shavers.of the decision. Damn, Ice, I was wondering when you'd get around to this one.
I for one can not stand Oscar De La Hoya. I lost any measure of respect for him when he ran from Trinidad for 5 rounds. I like boxers who come to fight and Vargas is an absolute warrior - a guy who lifted himself off the canvas time after time against a clearly superior Felix Trinidad. I am so sick of Oscar and his Ricky Martin act - and Roy Jones Jr. too. Jones is SO overrated it's rediculous, and his ring entrances and rap act are excruciatingly tired. I could've beat up that bastard he fought Saturday, and probably half the tomato cans he's faced in his career. He's a fraud and a coward who's never faught a legitimate opponent in his career. i know, off topic... Anyway: Vargas by knockout.
