You mite not wanna drive to work tomorrow. Yes, but cars have definite benefits. I'd say the benefits often outwiegh the risks. Ear candling does not. There's no proven benefit whatsoever. |

You mite not wanna drive to work tomorrow. Right, comparing something that has a lot of benefits and a few occasional problems to something that has no benefits and more than occasional problems makes it looks sooo much better.

Might I suggest, for starters, a simple humidifier in your bedroom at night? Certain models also have a plug-in for menthol, etc... I use one about 3-5 months out of the year because I have absolutely horrible sinuses that clog up my ears, as well, and I find this to be of benefit. A single night of doing it won't change much but if you use it regularly your sinuses will thank you.

I don't like taking medication for my nose, it makes me feel very weird. Is there anything I can take that is really mild, I mean like literally not a drug but something more natural? Is there a remedy for the ear thing, like drops to dry it up or something? I heard the doctor can suck the ear stuff out but I never had that done. Is it painful? The ear thing really gets in my way of listening to music.... Supa read: http://www.rnid.org.uk/in...inging.htm

If you are going to get a Air Purifier I recommend Bionaire Air Purifier in the UK they are recommended by the British Allergy Foundation. I use them myself they are quiet and do work.

It's not like that The candle is lite on the other end and the suction in the cone sucks out the wax. Little do most people realize that the residue that is then found in the candle is not actually ear wax, it's the candle itself. So basically, there is no proof that it actually works. Exactly. I'll second that - I didn't think there was anything wrong with my hearing, but people kept commenting that I was always asking them to repeat themselves. I finally shuffled off to a doctor, where they gave me the syringe treatment. I was appalled by what they washed out of my ear, but the difference to my hearing, no exageration, was stunning. Why any sane person would bother with that candling nonsense is beyond me. five minutes in a doctors office is all it takes.

I clean my ears out with peroxide...just a about a dropper full and I let if fizz until it stops and then I turn my head over to let it drain out onto a kleenex. It really works.

Have you ever heard of a Neti pot? It is a small pot with a long, slender spout designed to irrigate the sinuses with a saline solution. More details can be found at this link: http://www.healingdaily.c...ti-pot.htm. Using a Neti pot can be awkward at first but many people swear by its effectiveness at clearing out the sinuses and nasal passages. Irrigation is a great idea too...my allergist created a recipe for hyperionized saline solution that's made with distilled water, kosher salt and baking soda...I'll look for it for you. You basically suck it up into a bulb and squirt it up your nose...it feels great and works!

Periodically they bring you in to the office and drain your ear with a vacuum-type machine. I had these in my ears for a while when I was younger. It was pain in the ass, but it wasn't really painful at all. They put you under when they do the surgery, and there was practically no soreness afterwards.

I tried it, it freaked me out.. but then I have breathing issues on top of my sinus problems due to numerous throat surgeries. When I was a child, I had a doctor that use to do warm water irrigation of the ear. I have no idea if they do that sort of thing anymore but it wasn't unpleasant. Otoh, he used to have this crazy electrical/mechanical contraption that he would use on my mother... she would lay down, and one tube would drain water into one nostril and then a second tube would suck the fluid back out the second one! Scary scary stuff when you're 6 or 7 years old.

The use of "ear candles" is perfectly safe if carried out by a trained practitioner using quality products, but should never be done by someone inexperienced or carried out on ones self.

sorry to hear about your probs .... but i will only add to the response above that --- gettin your ears cleaned out isnt all that bad ... when i was younger ... and a swimmer ... i had a build up of ear wax ... and had the doctor get it out ... it was kinda weird ... but over in 5-10 min and ... not bad or frightening ... kinda eye opening as stated above as far as how much crap comes out ...

Well they want to give me pills which freak me out so I can't take them Ear infection caused by allergies caused by sinuses... my fate... I gots what you need... call me... I have zithromax in one dose liquid form..... instant cure in a one dose 10 day bottle... Hollar! . [Edited 2/7/07 12:12pm]
