San Francisco's Big Visitor The Queen Mary 2 sailed into San Francisco bay yesterday for a one night stay during an around the world voyage. It is the first time the ocean liner has been to SF and it is the talk of the town.
During lunch, I walked down to the pier where it is berthed to check her out. This ship is HUGE! It looks like an entire city block pulled up along the Embarcadero waterfront. Here are some cool pics....

Technically it is an ocean liner, not a cruise ship, or at least that is what I read in the newspaper yesterday. Ocean liners are built to carry passengers from one port (Southampton, in this case) to another on a regular schedule, making transportation the primary mission(unlike cruise ships where the voyage itself is the primary mission). Also, it is built to withstand North Atlantic waters, which most cruise ships (which are much lighter) cannot handle. It is the world's largest ocean liner. We often have cruise ships in SF bay, but nothing the size of the QM2, which is almost twice as long as Silja's biggest ship. The thing is massive. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on | |
