MOTHERFUCKING ORG!!!! Shit. I typed up a whole mess of shit and it all dissapeared.

Anyways, I gained 30 pounds last year, which places me above my upper weight limit for my height. Originally I was trying to gain weight, but in the form of muscle. It didn't go that way. falloff

So now I'm having to work my ass off to lose the weight (it's always hardest to lose weight when you're above a certain zone confuse ).

Anyways, the most difficult things that I find in doing this is:

1) My mind always tricks itself into thinking that I'm being punished for not being able to eat the nast sweet foods I love so much. In reality, what is the prize of eating this nasty food? It's a trap of the mind.

2) I always plateua--this is due to a mental block. You reach a point where you don't see results, and you think you're done. You get frustrated. In reality, if you're working out 5 times a week, you *are* improving continually, even if the scale doesn't reflect it.

3) I always feel like I'm not gaining results as fast as I should. THis again, I feel is a mental trap. Truth of the matter is, if you really apply yourself, you are improving.

One of the perks of going back to the gym this time is that I'm getting a personal trainer. He has the god damned nicest ass I've ever seen on a man. It's pert, firm, and god damned divine.

His ass is my new clarion call to a more disciplined life. I intend to have an ass at least half as nice by the end of 2007.

But I already know the diet they will set me up on : 5 small meals a day. There's a formula they use for the calories your allowed. Folling it brings dramatic results. Also, I'll be supplementing CLA , HMV, and creatine into my routine. I hope this helps me a bit.

Anyways, great thread. Good luck everyone.

We should collectively come up with a "collective number" all of us need to lose, say a combined "150 pounds", and each work towards contributing to that goal. It's always nice to pull for a team.
Good stuff Dan. biggrin

I know I alone want to lose 75 pounds. Depending on who's up for it, that'll be a huge chunk right there, pun intended. razz

Maybe we should all come up with our personal number and then add that up.
That way we can work towards the whole and pull through for the team.

Doing it as a team always helps.

I am so in.

I am fat because I just keep eating sweets. I am not an overeater, in fact I under eat...I just eat all the worse foods when I do eat. I also have not worked out once since moving into my new place. I am going back to work next week and none of my old work clothes fit. sigh

I am not sure how much I really need to lose and I am not going to focus on numbers at all. I'll just know I am there when all my "skinny" clothes fit.

I really need help getting motivated, guys. I am at an all time low and truly hate not just the way I look but my lack of energy and just not feeling mentally fit.

Reading this thread is totally making my day. Let's do this!

The issue is that the first two months, you may not notice the pounds coming off, though you *will* be losing inches and gaining strength, energey, etc.

The best thing to do is have others visual skan you to make sure you are losing weight.

Please take off all your clothes and send me a picture. Each week continue this, and I'll let you know how you're progressing. shrug

I care. I care alot.

Carbs. Cut out the carbs!!! Some girls in the office went on a no carb diet and between 6 of them collectively lost 400 pounds in 6 months! eek
[Edited 2/5/07 12:26pm]

But that's not a healthy way to diet. What happens when they eat carbs again? Losing wieght is 1/3 attitude, 1/3 eating healthy, 1/3 excersize.

First you have to decide to do lose weight and keep at it no matter what. Get a buddy to help you either for encouragement and to do this with. Basiaclly someone who'll say to you"why didn't you go to the gym today"

The second is the easiest to adjust. Eat correct portions (no second helpings), Eat what is good for you. Take a look at the calories and fat content of the sstuff you eat. Look at that bag of potato chips. Notice the fat content. Now grab a bag of Sunchips or Baked chips and look at the fat content. It's 1/2! If you watch what you eat and eat a balanced meal. We all eat horribly! ANd cutting out the junk will help you stop gaining weight. Oh and don't eat at least 1 hr before you go to bed.

The 3rd is really hard. It takes time, motivation, and physical work. I had a friend for YEARS just unable to lose the wieght she had. SHe wasn't gaining just not losing. By her late 20's dairy intolerance along with wierd reaction to what we thought was tomatoes, forced her to change how she ate. So while she didn't gain, she never lost either. Excersize was they final key to lose the weight hse always wanted. She still has a ways to go, but looks and feels fantastic.

I have lost 12 pounds.

Not from dieting, but from working a second job.. Lifting, and walking.

I had my metabollic rate checked, and it was quite high. Most women average anywhere for 900 to 1100.

Mine was something like 1500. So I knew if I got off my lazy butt, and did something it would come off.

I hope to be around 130 by summer...

i wanna lose 20 to 30 pounds. and my sister had told me about a website you can join for free that has an online journal. i signed up for it, but now can't remember the site! you enter what you eat into it each day, and it tells you how many calories it is. you also enter in all your physical activity and it tells you how many calories you've burned. and it has EVERYTHING listed, with an estimate to calorie burning. (even pooping, i kid you not!) i'll get the name from her, then maybe we could all make an account. i think you can make it public for everyone to see, then we can check up on eachother if we want. biggrin

i'm in... i gained 25lbs in the last year.
i need to get my ass back to the pool and the machines neutral

i have a family thing 5 months from now that i would like to look better for.

i decided that when i bring groceries home i can't just put them in the fridge. i need to do stuff with them or they will sit there for a week. if i make little snack sized veggie portions or meal sized salads ready to grab then i do ok.

if i just leave everything in their packaging then thats where they stay. still doing the protein shake in the mornings along with a multivitamin. but i have been bad snacking waaaay too much. and i still have a bunch of passes on my fitness card that are just sitting there mocking me lol.

A Canadian size 8 (I think our sizes run a bit different than yours).

Nothing too ridiculous, I know that this is a very healthy size for my height and bone structure. I look unhealthy at a size 6.

I would join your challenge Ivy, but I think I've already lost all the weight I'm going to lose.

Most of my life until I was 25, I never had to lose weight. I was so skinny in high school in fact that my nicknames ranged from bean pole to Translucent Boy to stick figure to you name it. But in 2001, I had a few health scares, I quit doing drugs, made a lot of personal changes. For some reason, my metabolism slowed way down. By 2004, my weight was up to 215 pounds and my height is around 6'5". That's pretty normal proportions for my height, but not my frame. I still have a thin frame. So I gained all of my weight around my waist. It didn't look so hot.

Fast forward a few years. Everyone knows I've had some issues with my health again. Part of getting better has meant watching strictly what I put in my body. I only eat when I'm hungry. I only get fast food if absolutely necessary, not just for convenience. I don't eat to the point of being sickly full. Often, I eat once a day or only a few small meals. If I snack, I try to make it something simple like fruit or animal crackers or muffins or yogurt. No more chips, donuts, shit like that.

And I've been able to keep off 40 pounds in the past year because of this. I'm back down to my fighting weight of 175 and I'm pretty happy there. I swim several times a week and my energy level overall is much higher.

Eating well doesn't have to suck. There are plenty of healthy alternatives to burgers, hot dogs and pizza that taste great. A lot of times it's a matter of finding the right recipes or restaurant, but it's always worth the effort.

Ivy, you look gorgeous no matter what. I mean that. But I'm so proud of you for taking on these health goals and making them happen. hug
