Shure e3c headphones These things are incredible. I know I should be paying off other thing instead splurging on stuff like this, but the sound quality is amazing. If you can stomach the $180 price tag on these, it's well worth the cost. I needed something to tune out my noisy neighbors when I'm trying to get work done, and these work great, lol.

I gave up on the kind you stick into your ears a long time ago. It gets itchy and uncomfortable, and they don't block out the surrounding noise very well.
I prefer this type, or preferably even bigger:

They have several different tips to place on the earphones, all come bundled with it. The silicon ones are kinda hard and uncomfortable, the soft rubber ones though are much nicer. I haven't tried the foam ones yet.
I have a big pair of Sony studio headphones that I was wearing previously, the only problem was, none of the headphones I ever bought seemed to be loud enough. I usually had to turn the volume all the way up. Plus they're kinda heavy, as is the cord that comes with them. These earbuds however are really loud, maybe because they're shoved into your ears letting less sound escape I guess. But I can barely turn the volume up a third of the way.

I have some Shure e2c ones. They are, by far, the best headphones I have ever had. The earbuds won't hurt your ears, Mach and they have excellent sound quality. Just don't turn up the volume too much because you can't hear a thing with them in.

i always end up destroying headphones/earphones within a few months of buying them, so i never spend more than thirty bucks on 'em. i usually buy the phillips brand earbud with the little plastic things that funnel right into your inner ear. i'll lose my hearing, but in a good way.

They are fantastic.
Mine broke today though, so this thread's kinda coincidental. Este sitio está moriendo de una maldad que no se puede ver ni comprender.

I have the Shure e4c's, and those really are fantastic. Crisp as hell. Even on the bottlenecked streets of Boston, I don't dare turn the volume up more than about a third of the way, lest I wanna get hit by a car I can't hear.
I also use the AKG 240s' that retina posted, and those are fantastic, too. Course, they're semi-open, so I stick with studio stuff and music in my room. But the bass is amazingly crisp on them. If I only had one complaint, I'd say the Shure's lag on the bass end slightly, just ever so slightly. But I'm sure there are physical limits when dealing with long wavelengths.

i have these by far the best ones i have ever owned I have the older version of those. I use them even without music. They don't completely block the noise, but they make it a lot more bearable. They're also very comfortable. A bit big for travel, though. Mine don't fold like it looks like your do. [Edited 2/5/07 16:20pm] My Legacy

Is it true that the bass on them sounds bit weak?
I'm told that's because the earbuds are meant to sound more precise than your standard set. I've been thinking about getting some of those, but I play mp3s and I'm not sure they make that much a different about loss-compressed files.

I have been lusting after a pair of these ever since they came out. Now I know they are as good as they claim to be. Time is a trick....

Yep, thats why I switched from the e2c's to the e3c's, they have a warmer sound and more bass to them. Though neither are for thumping bass. I was playing some 2pacalypse and Illmatic on them though, and they sounded fantastic, not a drop of distortion.

A lot of people seem to hate earbuds, but I prefer them.
Anyway, I've heard good things about Shure earbuds. I believe they have some models that are $500 (or more). I doubt I'd spend that much on a pair of headphones, but I'm curious how they sound.
