I don't think people should get be able to get Oscar's for playing real people. Impersonation is hardly the pinacle of acting.

I mean if that were the case Frank Caliendo will win an oscar someday should somebody decide to make a movie about John Madden.

but it couldn't be pulled off by any common actor either.

Mirren defintely captured me on that film that i had to watch it again for the 1st time i was very taken by her flawless impersonation of the queen.

in that case, actors shouldn't be given awards for interpreting the words of other people, because the actor isn't doing anything original - they're just impersonating someone's writing style.

which means only improvisational actors are TRUE actors, and catherine o'hara is the only qualified oscar contender this year for her role in 'for your consideration'.

I don't believe that's even the case with 'The Queen' since no one involved with making the film really knows how she is behind closed doors. A lot of that performance was pure speculation I think.

that post was a mess-edit

there is soooo much more to playing a real person that that.

in fact, as an actor, i have to say that, imo, it is harder to play a real person than it is is a fictional person, because with a fictional person, you are looking at intent, motives, feelings, emotions, whereas when you are playing a real person, you have all of that PLUS worrying about aligning your physical ranges (voice, body, stance, tics, etc) to match the real person.

it's a lot harder to do.
