so, a very nice gentleman from the sheriff's department rings my door bell this morning...

... and is trying to serve a subpoena or something to a rubber and gasket (!!) company that is apparently using our street address. eek

of course i told him that i didn't know the first thing about any such company, and we've lived here for years. he checked me out very carefully and deliberately to make sure i wasn't lying, then said that "these things happen", and left.

weird. confused

yup, he took my name and left. i was just about to leave, and he was still sitting in my driveway when i opened the garage door. he had to move to let me out - i was wondering if my leaving right away made me look a little guilty... hmmm

Haystack

I reckon you're in an epilogue of a low-budget horror movie and don't realise it yet.

That fake bloke from the sheriff's dept has just terrorized the previous victims throughout the movie and they, along with the audience, thought they'd killed him for good.

But his visit to your house has just proved them wrong and you're going to be in the sequel. Hurrah!

A lot of courts use sheriffs for service of process. It's a real hassle, but don't worry about it too much.
