Final ‘Harry Potter’ book set for release in July
Author J.K. Rowling says July 21 is date for ‘Deathly Hallows’

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16921850/
LONDON - “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the last of seven installments of the boy wizard’s adventures, will be published July 21, author J.K. Rowling said Thursday.
Rowling announced the publication date on her Web site.
Bloomsbury, her British publisher, said it would publish a children’s hardback edition, an adult hardback, a special gift edition and an audio book on the same day.

Scholastic Children’s Books, the U.S. publisher, said it would offer a hardback edition at a suggested retail price of $34.99, a deluxe edition at $65.00 and a reinforced library edition at $39.99.
Bloomsbury noted that this year is the 10th anniversary of the publication of the first “Harry Potter” book in the phenomenally successful series.
The “Potter” books have sold 325 million copies worldwide and been translated into 64 languages, Bloomsbury said.

The last book, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” sold 2,009,574 copies in Britain on the first day of its release, Bloomsbury said.
The Potter franchise is so important to the company’s earnings that it announced the publication to the London Stock Exchange.
Bloomsbury shares were up 2.2 percent to $4.40 after the announcement.

I know! I can't wait to read it and see how it ends, but I'm also so sad that the series is ending.

I just got round to reading books 5 and 6 and finished them both in the span of 2 weeks. I am very excited and just checked for a release date yesterday to find nothing.

I'm surprised, though, given the importance of the number 7 in the books, and the fact that this is book 7, that they're not trying to get it out 2 weeks earlier - 07/07/07...

If he does die I bet it'll be all over the news in no time, thus ruining the final reading experience all the gazillion fans have been looking forward to for a decade. lol

That is exactly what will happen. Somewhere in the UK some people painted the cliff hanger from book 6 on a motorway bridge.

As in most book to movie deals, the books are so much better than the movies and I LOVE the movies.

He will most certainly NOT die. There's no way in hell Rowling would do that. You can't seriously think she would.

He will lose his scar, though. I think his scar is a horcrux.

The Potter franchise is so important to the company’s earnings that it announced the publication to the London Stock Exchange.
Bloomsbury shares were up 2.2 percent to $4.40 after the announcement. In a departure for the author, this ultimate book in the Harry Potter series will finally have some decent chapters devoted to wizard sex.

Puh-leeeze. You don't really think she'd do that, do you? I so wish I could bet you money on this, 'cause there's just no way.

Hagrid, maybe. Snape, probably (he'll die redeeming himself, though). But the trio are safe. She just wants people to think he'll die to build up the suspense. Remember how she said a character would die before Book 5 came out? And then about every chapter led you to believe a different character would die. Hagrid's disappearance, the boggart and Mrs. Weasley, Mr. Weasley and the snake.

She's just set it up to look like he could die to make it seem like he's actually in danger. She ain't gonna kill him off. Kids all over the world would hate her. It'd be like "Misery" a million times over. biggrin

I think that Snape doesn't need to "redeem" himeself since he has done nothing wrong as such - he was forced to kill Dumbledore because of the unbreakable vow and even Dumbledore knew this (his demise was evident throughout the whole book).

I do belive that Snape will die though and in doing so will probably save Harry's life (at the time anyway) which will obviously make Harry question his original feelings towards Snape.

Anyway I have posted this before but for those that missed it.....

i think snape was forced to kill Dumbledore by the big D himself.

and, the story would be perfect if harry died to save everyone. a tragic/uplifting hero's death. i've always thought some books should end with people dying happily ever after.

can't wait to read it

I'd never thought of that, but that would be so perfect.

Supposedly the last word of the last book is 'scar'.

Not sure about Snape, though - yes, he made an unbreakable vow, but why? And if he hadn't followed through, he would have died - wouldn't Dumbledore be more valuable than Snape?

I suppose there is the point that Snape wasn't aware that Harry saw the whole thing go down...

But Harry won't die anyway - the first 2 chapters of HBP are, I think, the only ones in the whole series not told from Harry's perspective (i.e. him not present, overhearing it, dreaming it, etc.). Given that commitment, I think it would be very unlikely that the final chapter or two would be without Harry.

Has JK Rowling said anything about her post-Potter plans? Is she going to write anything else in the same world? Using any of the same characters? Has she mentioned any other writing plans? I could imagine her writing under a pseudonym, as Stephen King has done, for a little freedom from the constraints of writing 'Harry Potter's follow-up'.
