I DONT MEAN TO BE SO NEGATIVE>>>BUT

I see questions/topics, like, what is your favorite color what is you pets name, what is your favorite movie...sad Aren't these PRIVATE questions with answers to be known in case we forget or loose out password so that they can be emailed to us? Well that is beside OTHER personal quesions I have seen as threads. Oh well..Guess time to mind my own businiss. It is Sunday 6:20 am and nothing to do...JUST THINKING OUT LOUD...biggrin forgive me pray

I know what you mean... that's why I never use a password answer that someone might ask me about -- What's your favorite pet's name? What high school did you got to. etc.

I've always thought that "mother's maiden name" is a bad password question. That information is usually on a person's birth certificate, which is a public record. Furthermore, I'll bet that in many cases, the mother's maiden name and the child's last name are the same, because the mother never married.
Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position.

Very true...Just this answer itself can access much PRIVATE information of ones life. I do not even give my banks my TRUE mothers maiden name. And yes sad it is sad that many do share the same last name as the mother, which in many cases as you mention, is HER last name.

I don't think it's "sad", as you mentioned before, when a child carries his/her mother's last name. Why in the world would it be? There's never any doubt as to who the mother of a child is, first of all, and secondly, quite often a father chooses not to have anything to do with his child. So why should the child bear his last name in that case? There's absolutely no shame in bearing your mother's surname...it actually makes much more sense. Just because something's traditional doesn't mean it's "right" or the "correct" way to do something.

IMHO, I would rather just give my child the last name of the father and later explain the TRUTH...Rather than just try and explain why we have the same last name. A child deserves the TRUTH. Most mothers do not give the child the last name of the father out of simple SPITE. But everybody has a different way of understanding and looking at the situation differently. I have even heard of woman not wanting the proper authorities to know the last name of the father to excuse the father from his financial responsibilites. NOW that is sad for the child. Two adults/people SHOULD know what kind of person they would trust as the parent to their offspring. But then now here we get into a deeper situations/topic, WHICH I will not even get into. Dont want to change the thread to something other than what my intentions were...And basically, PEOPLE be careful of the info you give out over the net.
