That's why he kept on cutting open people's heads, right? So that means he would have had to perform microsurgery on the roach. I just browsed through Episode 12 "Godsend" and while there are two scenes of Sylar lying on his bunk with the cockroach crawling around him - he does NOT say "you're broken". In fact, he doesn't speak at all in that episode.

If anything, perhaps the cockroach was simply a foreshadowing symbol of what his escape plan would be... The idea that he could 'digest' the DNA of insects and animals seems just a bit beyond what they've shown us so far. Since the idea is that he incorporates the traits of other 'heroes' and we know he's killed at least one or two previously where I don't think it was established what their powers were it's possible this is a trick he's picked up previously...

Perhaps this is an issue that will be clarified in some way in the future.



Which I think is what everyone in the episode is looking for in respect to their individual problems/situation...
