I berated a Dutch cartoonist for drawing a Senseo into his daily.

I also hate Senseo machines. For people who hate coffee.

I am playing a lovely weird playlist of electronic music. Rabbit InYour Headlight just came on. I listen to alot of Radiohead lately.

I fucking love my Senseo, it's for people who don't have muchg time in the morning!!!!! I drink real coffee at work and in the weekend!

Well, every tv channel these days, even though occasional brilliance is found if you are willing to weed out the majority.

I cursed yesterday when the tranquility of The Antiques Roadshow was taken away from me. I forgotit was on and just saw the last two items.

Let's see. Never Mind The Buzzcocks has a new presenter Ifind hilarious.

Dutch program De Wereld Draait Door is like RTL Boulevard for people with brains and humour, most of the time.

The sports program of the same presenter I keep forgetting the name of right now; love it.

Besides series that's all I watch. Even though I saw ANTM tonight and was mildly entertained. I watched the rest of the episode, as I wanted to see the drag queen voted off, only to find out she could stay and the voted off the Scarlet Johansen look-alike for the lack of persona.

Funny, that is exactly what I think of Scarlet.

When I think of Scarlet I hardly think of her persona.... lol

Late last night I saw an episode of Louis Theroux' Weird Weekends and was reminded what brilliant television is.....he was visiting White Supremacist groups in Southern California (acrually close to where Karen lives) and good ole' Louis got himself into awkward positions because of his brilliant persona.....I love this man! I wish there was more stuff like this on TV, so compelling!

omg I watched this! I love Louis' documentaries. nod He did one about Michael Jackson the week before, and another where he stayed at a Nevada bordello for 3 weeks. lol

God those twin girls, Lamb and Lynx, and their horrible mother. disbelief I have actually heard of them. They have an alnbum out now. confused We can only hope that they wise up soon and shoot their mother or something for raising them that way and trying to profit off of it. stab

But absolute favorite Dutch show, which I've watched faithfully every Sunday for years, is Reportage. nod There will be a great serial killer one on next Sunday. thumbs up!

I have seen the whole series a couple of years ago, when it first came out! I also love the one where Louis is in Harlem,NY visiting black leaders.....at some point he visits some black religious cult and is being welcomed by these guys wearing all kinds of funny stuff. They make him sit down and show him a painting of Jesus Christ (you know, as he is commonly known).....The black guys ask Louis what color Jesus is in that painting and Louis says he is white (which he was in the painting!).....and the black guys go mad screaming at Louis that the man in the painting is BLACK!!!!! And I just fuckin' love how Louis continues handling himself without losing his brilliant persona.....Meanwhile you'd think he's gonna get his ass kicked!

Yeah, Lamb & Lynx.....that was pretty disgusting, especially their mom.....just do a google search on them, you'll be amazed how well-known they are!

Reportage is thumbs up!

I don't understand why this whole "respect for the dead" thing keeps getting brought up when it comes to him. I mean, if you want your body to be used in that way after you die, who cares? Obviously you wouldn't donate yourself to him because you don't want to be examined in that way, but other people do and don't mind. And why would they? They're dead by then! lol It's not any worse than slowly rotting in the ground or being burned. shrug

How is anyone being disrepectful to the dead by studying them? confuse He didn't kill them or anything. When we die, we are not our bodies anyway. It is just the shell we lived in while on earth and for whatever reason, is not working anymore. We don't need it then. What harm is there in donating your body so others can learn from it? I just don't get the backlash. shrug

And what do morals have to do with it?

I actually considered that at one point. Now I just live vicariously through my sister Vanessa, who is a paramedic/firefighter. biggrin She's always got cringe-worthy stories to tell, has gone through all the anatomy classes, and still has her textbooks around. lol Very interesting reading. (with photos! woot! )

I've gone out with her on many calls as an observer, and she's let me do CPR on patients sometimes if the situation and circumstances call for it. I've even had a dead woman on my lap at one point. biggrin I don't think I could do what she does though: emergency medicine. I'm not that quick of a thinker. lol But medical examiner, yes. nod It's always interested me.

Actually, I don't know. hmmm I've always been interested in it, and it's the one profession that I've considered that wasn't on the creative side of things. I've just been doing what I've been doing (dancing, design) for so long now that it never really occured to me to seriously pursue it.

I sure would make more money though if I did! nod Dancers make crap for money. confused

Not really. There have been many accusations against him, but none of them have really been proven either way. And he's actually only done about 400 dissections. Not thousands.

Do you have any idea of all the MANY other things that other institutions can do with your body if you donate it to science? It's hardly worse than what Von Hagens does. They're allowed to put you in a moving car as a human crash test dummy. They'll lay you out on at field at Quantico in the Forensic Pathology Dept. and observe how you rot, with clothes on, without clothes, under a pile of leaves, etc. These people are also making money off their research and what they do and it's also for a good cause.

There's no disputing that he's an eccentric person with a bit of an obsession, but I see nothing wrong with it. He's clearly very passionate about what he does and is very knowledgable. He's really very brilliant. Nothing wrong with him profitting from years of education and experience at what he does, is there?

Have you watched the anatomy courses? It's not all just him tearing apart bodies, which is what people seem to think. They are done for medical students as well as possible or future donors, who wish to observe what he does and make the decision of whether they'd ever like to donate.

The films are specifically meant to be educational for everyone watching, and he does them with the help of another well known pathologist (Professor John A Lee) and many assistants. He uses live nude models that stand there and have the different systems of the body painted on them, so the audience can see where everything is placed on a live person.

He also does non-cadaver demonstrations to show how different organs work, such as using models with plastic tubes, clear boxes, polymers, etc. to break it down for the audience how for example, the kidneys work. It's not just all dead bodies all over the place with him hacking away.

There is no doubt that he's obsessed w/ the human body and how it functions, but if people are going to continue to donate their bodies to him, he'll continue doing it I'm sure. I have no problem with it. He invented plastination, which is revolutionary for anyone studying in that field I would imagine. I think the main problem people have with the exhibit and the anatomy films are that they are visible to the public. A lot of people don't want to see that, and don't want others to be able to as well from what it sounds like. But these types of dissections are happening ANYWAY, whether or not people pay to see them.

The exhibits are just an extension of that. I've seen it twice.

So unless you've actually seen the program in its entirety, I wouldn't be so quick to judge. It's really just extraordinary to see and to learn from. It's changed the way I view and treat my own body. nod

Today I have to make a choice.

These all start at 20:30;

CSI Miami. Okay, with one actor I irrationally dislike into oblivion, but I still like the franchise. They can cut up ALL the bodies they like in this series cuz I know it ain't real.

The Gilmore Girls. Totally adore this series. Wanna own them all.

Swordfish. Saw it already once, a long time back. I even think in the cinema. With this totally kewl explosion scene. Again; if it ain't real it's fun.

But what's morally wrong? That people donate their bodies to be used in displays and anatomy classes? Or that he makes it a public thing and has become famous because of it? confuse

Because if they know what's going to happen, or what might happen to thier bodies after death and donation, how can that be morally wrong? hmm

I can understand that loads of people would not want to watch it because they think it's gross and couldn't stomach most of it, but what's wrong with trying to educate people? I just don't understand. hmmm
