If you go here http://www.galway.cc go to the forums section, and then to geeks corner you'll see topics on MySQL, PHP, HTML, CSS, Scripting for Radio Streaming, and using Joomla! for creating discussion forums. Also have a look at the website in my signature - emcradio, it was designed using all the techniques discussed in the geeks corner of galway.cc.

The geeks corner has really only just started, but there's plenty of information there already, and lots more to come. Techbot, who designed both emcradio and galway.cc is around most of the time to field any questions.

If the info there is too 'in at the deep end' for you then just start a new topic asking how to get started on website design.

Any questions you have about it, please do ask, that is the whole purpose of the galway.cc forums.

If you wanna build it from scratch, the basic things you will need are...

- A domain name (you can get one at places like networksolutions.com).

- A web host.

- An FTP client to transfer files from your computer to your web host.

- Some kind of graphics program, such as Photoshop or Fireworks.

- Dreamweaver

Pick up a few books on HTML and CSS, and you'll be good to go.

Your internet provider should give you some free webspace. It'll be enough to just experiment with.

I personally think that Dreamweaver is a bit complex for beginners.

My advice would be to play around with Yahoo Page Builder. It's free to sign-up and completely drag-and-drop. If anything, it's over-basic, but it's good to practice with. Move something around and view the resulting HTML to see what's happening in the background.

Try and work solely with HTML before moving onto other design formats.

Flash is unbelievably easy if you use something like Swish.

Also, if you see a site you like, view its HTML source and try to figure out how it works. Keep a text file on your hard drive and copy-and-paste useful code and java-script into it, every time you find something you can use.

Google is your friend. Search for HTML help and you'll find it.

Finally, I think the easiest HTML editor for beginners, is a free program called "1st Page 2000". It doesn't appear to be available on the official website anymore, but I think I've got an archived copy I can upload.

I've uploaded a copy of "1st Page 2000", here: http://www.mediafire.com/?2b2qzwawmm4

Also, I should add, that there's loads of free templates out there if you get completely stuck for inspiration. There's some on this site, here: http://www.elated.com/pagekits/
