Can you reccomend a good RED wine?

I'm bored with my favorites.

It's one of my worst habits. I never, ever remember wines I enjoy. I go through life having someone pick out wine for me. Even when I go to the store, I usually have someone who works there recommend something (which is why I only go to wine stores I trust).

I should start writing them down. But I bet I won't. lol

Franciscan Merlot is great. My buddy got me hooked on that stuff. It only about $20 a bottle.

Around $13 a bottle - Ecco Domani Sangiovese is one of my favorites.

Then there's Black Opal Shiraz. smile

We don't pay much around here, but you can find tasty stuff for cheap enough.
This one's for you.

I don't usually like red wine, but Australian shiraz I'll drink. (Rosemont Estate--it's not very expensive...$9--$14 depending on what part of Manhattan you're in).

I hear South Africa has nice shiraz too, but haven't tried any. Maybe I'll buy a bottle to bring to the party I'm going to tomorrow night... hmmm

Don't go new world its packed with Shiraz that covers all the subtlety.

Pretty much any better claret will blow ya socks off, premier or grand cru will be even better, personally pomerols or st emillion i prefer but i like "in your face wines". I know a good restaurant near you that has a great wine list that would be a good guide.

Look at the Bordeaux section

The Chateau Latour was superb and had been stored well.

The Canon Fronsac will be a decent drink too but the 96 was better.

My hometown is the home of Rosenblum Cellars and any of their Zins are excellent. Many awards and not too pricey. Also, last week I visited an small winery called Dutcher Crossing north of Healdsburg in the Sonoma Valley and they had very good reds.

I'm no expert, but here's my 2 cents.

I've been drinking French Bordeaux, no particular type, but I've liked it much more than California wines lately.

Also, the best wine I ever bought was from a wine shop, not Trader Joes/liquer store/supermarket. And it was only $10 a bottle.

thanks everyone. I should have added that I find Shiraz to be utter shite. The same with the fruit infused wines.

Mouton Cadet bordeaux is a really popular wine that I bought at T.J.'s once and I thought was pretty good

i'm a fan of beaujolais, though i guess it's more of an autumn wine. shrug

i don't care - whenever i can find it, i get it. it's fruity (like me!) and not very bitter (shut up), and i think it's good chilled OR at room temperature (though why anyone chills red wine is beyond me).

it's also not terribly pricey, but it's not like boones farm or anything.
