my friends here used to go skating about every weekend when i was younger. my mom never took us b/c we didn't have the money. by the time i could go with them myself i was older and such a pitiful skater!! it takes me two or three times around the ring to get "decent", and even then i'm constantly feeling like i'm going to fall down.
i haven't skated in years now. There is no perfect place
Yes I know this is true I'm just learning how to smile Thats not easy to do

Oh damn.. I was put off roller skating in my early teens..
Hell when I got my new 80s rollerboots, electric blue with bright rainbows on the side they were too funky.. and me and my mates used to take them to school and roll down the big hills during our break time.. Well I became pretty good on them, could go backwards and jump and all that kinda stuff.. Ok, one day at home.. I was messing about on them.. pretty 13 year old.. and we lived next to a hotel.. anyway there was a gorgeous guy.. (prolly about 15) and he was watching me out his window.. I knew he was watching, but pretended I didnt know and kept skating past the window showing off.. Well then I went real far back, got up some real speed, went real fast, jumped up on the path and woah!!! (Thought that would impress him.. ) Damn.. when I landed the front wheels came off and went rolling down the road, I landed hard on the ground, head first.. totally mortified.. I think I kept lying there on the pavement, not daring to get up.. I was just waiting for the ground to swallow me up..

i haven't been to a skating rink since i was in junior high...i used to go to the one in my hometown (well, one of 'em...there's 4 rinks there) every year for their new year's party...they'd have the place open from 6 p.m. new year's eve till 6 a.m. on new year's day. it was fun as hell, too...unfortunately, the last party i went to, a friend of my niece's got shot out in the parking lot.

I'm sooo jealous! I had my 9 years old birthday party there!!! I didn't know that place was still open. They took down the dinosaur off the roof right? I used to rollerskate every Saturday there when I was a kid. That's my neighborhood.

There was no dinosaur, no. And with the music they played and with the fact that not much has changed inside at ALL we felt a bit as if we were in a time warp. A few of my friends even played ski ball and exchanged their tickets for bouncy balls and little erasers and stickers and stuff. It was a lot of fun. |

It's been 25 years since I've stepped foot inside! Do they still have that voltage machine on the wall? Do people still wear pompoms on their skates with the tongues down? Do they still do the hokey pokey?

They didn't play any games (it was a 21+ night, old school funk and disco was the main musical theme_, but there were some people there who definitely go every Friday night. They were fun to watch. And yeah, there were girls with pom poms no their skates. My friends and I decided we definitely need to go again sometime. It would lose it's novelty if we made a habit out of it, but we had too much fun not to try another time or two in the coming year. I hadn't been on skates in YEARS either. My first go 'round was a little shaky but after a few times around I seemed to remember what to do. A few of us were able to dance it up a bit even. |

my sister was rollerkating at the rink with her class and a brick wall collapsed on her and broke her femur clean in half so the bone protruded right out of her leg.

That reminds me of the time we were climbing up to jump off the diving board, and a big old piece of ceiling fell into the pool and surrounding group, and very nearly shook us off. Amazinly no one was severely hurt. we thought it was so cool at the time.
