Why wasn't the following Bush quote reported?

During Bush's trip to Brazil recently, he naively commented to Fernando Henrique Cardioso (President of Brazil) "Do you have blacks here too?".

The embarassing silence was only broken when Conddoleezza Rice informed George that Brazil had a higher black population of any country outside Africa.

Spared the necessity of having to give Bush's dumb question an answer, Cardoso later described the US president as being 'still in training'.

Interestingly the incident happened in full view of the press but was not reported in either the US or British media.

It'd be laughable if it wasn't so sad. Does Dubya have any knowledge of the world outide the way things are done in Texas USA?

It doesn't make sense that he'd say such a thing, and I'm not an elephant OR mule supporter. I'll believe it if I see it. Also, Africa is not a country; it's a continent.

If we all hate the press so much and see them as liars and spinners, why do we take certain statements to heart?

Nobody said Africa was a country. "Higher black population of any country outside Africa" = higher black population in Brazil than any of the other countries outside those within the continent of Africa.

It's not the press' job (mainstream) or not to spoonfeed you the news. It's a 2 way street. You have to do some of the work yourself... like LOOKING for it.

Sure, but we're not all helpless victims out here. It's our job to seek out information. And our job to ignore the bullshit. It's not their responsibility to take us by the hand and show us where to look.

Sorry, Essence. I read that wrong. I should've read it as "country outside [the continent] Africa." Thanks for quoting it again.

mistermaxxx, i don't doubt Bush is a bad man, but who isn't bad who is rich in power? few if any. in no way does that justify his words or actions, but sometimes we seem to single a person out when the problem is much greater than that one man. at least, that's the way i think. is the solution to vote another man in who is also rich in power? tough predicament, eh.

He's made a whole book-full of naive/ignorant quotes regarding world affairs. Not unlike the UK's very own Prince Phillip, but while the Royals are a sideshow tourist attraction now, Dubya scarily holds the most powerful position in the world. eek

On a Prince theme can you say "Electric Chair"? Go check the death penalty records of Texas for a nice breakdown on who Mr Bush gave the OK to be frazzled... there's a few anomalies to be found.

nobody is arguing against your point though Jasziah...I think this thread was created to point out what an *IDIOT* our current President is...This man has zero comprehension capability...you can tell he doesnt understand a word he is saying when giving speeches, his face has a blank chimp look to it...

like essence pointed out, "this is the most powerful man in the world?"

Sure it was. To whine about the media not covering what an idiot Bush is. The media's covering it. But that doesn't mean they have to be there to jam it down your throat for you and make sure you swallow like a good little boy or girl.

No. If my interpretation of the thread is accurate, the purpose was to point out how selective the media is with just how inept he is. This isn't the first time he's said something idiotic, or acted like a complete adolescent doofus when the media was around. The media is there to tell the world when every president goes to doctors for a lousy, innocuous, check-up. They'll bloody hell tell the world if he has a damn hemmorhoid. It's obvious they didn't want this idiotic exchange between Bush and President Cardioso of Brazil to potentially have legs because they didn't want to make him look like more of bumbling fool than he already is. With the current political climate America is in with Iraq and Afghanistan, they don't want him to come across that way. To anyone.

Right on Supernova! I completely agree.

It's interesting that I know that Clinton got a blow job in the Oval Office, massaged Monica's vagina with a cigar, and came on her dress...yet, potentially damaging in4mation on this GRADE A TEXAS RODEO CLOWN is not reported in the mass media.

His brother handed him the presidency on a silver platter draped with Florida oranges and Mickey Mouse's ears...yet nothing was done 2 investigate what truly happened in Florida.

4 those who complain that the media is "LIBERALLY" controlled can shove their collective complaints up their elephant sized asses!
