Spike Lee: Thread I must admit Spike is one of my top 3 directors. I love the fact that he always tries new techniques and has creative story ideas. His films have a REAL element to them and we can always identify with at least one of the charachters in his movies. My fav films by him are : Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X, Get on the Bus and Summer of Sam.

Mine are DO The RIght Thing,Malcom X,Get on The Bus,there is a Charm to She's gotta have it for me.4 little Girls is so deep.Jungle Fever was cool to me.the scene where Flipper is looking for His Brother Gator at the Taj Mahal Crack House with Stevie WOnder's "Living for the City" playing is Price-Less IMHO.overall while I CHampion Him&think alot of the Brother His Work can Be Hit&Miss over time&even He has said so.I think He is kinda Under-Rated because the Man is always involved in so many kind of Projects&has so much Creativity IMHO.one thing I can't figure out is if Spike wanted to Be a Athlete or a Musician?? they seem to be things that if given a flip of a coin for another Career choice I think they would be High on His List IMHO.Peace mistermaxxx

Spike Lee is Really Cool. His films have excellent Messages and I really enjoy all of his work. From his early independent films She's Gotta Have It made on a low budget this Brooklnite has come a long way. I love his films . I've seen them all.

SPIKE THE MAN!!!
My absolute fave by him is: School Daze!! Can't help it - I know it has flaws but it just holds a place in my heart & I can't let it go. I also love: Mo' Better Blues, Do the Right Thing, Summer of Sam, Bamboozled, Jungle Fever. 4 Little Girls was really good but it's so sad that I've only watched it twice. Spike is my favorite director, a bit hit & miss sometimes (Girl 6 - WTF???) but I love him... if P hadn't been all over that soundtrack, I seriously would have walked out...

Yeah,I agree with you about 'Girl 6'.That movie was a little weird. If it wasn't for the Prince music AND the Madonna cameo,I would have walked out too

Yeah Malcolm X, Do The Right Thing and Get On The Bus are probably my three too.
Like CalhounSq says multiple viewing of "4 Little Girls" no matter how well it's put together is hard because of subject matter. Bamboozled was good for it's overall message too, although the execution was sometimes a letdown.

I give Spike props for being one of the few who could push his art house films through the commercial industry. He is a real auteur film-maker which often gets overlooked by critics used to commercial fare in general, and from black directors in particular.
My favorites: Do the Right Thing-- Spike really capture the heat, the moment, the culture, the political energy of the time Malcolm X-- pretty faithful with a few problems here and there. But the performance by Denzel and Angela and the subject matter overshadowed any fault that Spike brought to the table School Daze-- not only did it help showcase go-go on a national level (DaButt but it was almost required viewing for pre-freshman year in college "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

I'm a huge fan of Spike Lee's movies.
Everything from She's Gotta Have it up to present day. I think my favourites were Malcolm X, Jungle Fever, Do the Right Thing, Get On the Bus... Funny, other favourite director is Woody Allen. Very different styles, but they both pursue their vision regardless of commercial concerns (well, maybe not COMPLETELY regardless but you get my point).

DAMN, how could I forget Get On the Bus?!!! MY BAD. He's got such a catalogue now, I can't keep them all straight. That's one of my faves too.
Execution of Bamboozled was QUITE questionable at times. The first time I saw it, I couldn't stand it. But he was in town so I went again to hear him speak. Second time, it was okay. Third was the charm, I fell in love w/ it. I still don't like the ending, lol, but the complexities that he examines are painful yet funny, ugly ass hell yet beautiful (photography at times) all at once. Gotta dig that...
