I do try and research on certain stuff, not always, but dependant on the thread topic I will.

I have studied a little about the History of Slavery in the US - certain historical areas of Religion - Racism - Modern day Slavery - Current War in Iraq etc.....plus I tend to study my own personal interests, WW2 and related topics (Geek spot.....German doctors where the first to connect certain Cancers to smoking.....Pre WW2..... eek ) Paranormal stuff, like Ghosts, Ufo's etc.

Doesn't make me an expert on anything though !!!

lol

No. But it makes you more informed than if you didn't read about any of those topics. The knowledge gained affects how you form your opinion and what conclusions you draw.
I thought "The Slave Trade" by Hugh Thomas was an excellant read. He covers 1440-1870. Researched legal documents on traders and documented profits. Also discusses accounts available by the slaves. Thoroughly researched book with alot of data and statistics that are amazing.

Everybutty who posts on this thread should receive a complimentary tube of Preparation H.

And Preparation H can also be used as an eye cream for puffiness. FYI.
Although preferably not the same tube used for rectal itching and hemorroidal issues.

I will have to look at that, although I must admit, after some of the information I read on the Net and some of the Photo's / Paintings / Depictions etc, I find it a little hard to stomach how the Slaves had been treated.....It is an emotionally difficult subject to study, or at least for me. sad

The book doesn't give details on day to day life of slaves. It details how the practice started (sugar cane, in South America, for one) and it's demise. The British were the 1st to ban slavery and actively intercepted ships carrying slaves. The Brits felt so strongly about it, they altered their political interactions with countries that still allowed slavery. Eventually everyone came to the same conclusion. That it was inhumane.
It's on my re-read list. Unbiased, factual account of the history of slavery. I learned alot of new info particularily the international level of participation.

Thats ok then, some of the things I have come across have been so very harrowing that I actually started to feel ashamed !!! I will keep an eye out for it.

Cheers.
