Shonda Rhimes gave a speech at the Golden Globe awards and if I remember correctly didn't she say something to the affect that Isaiah Washington didn't make that comment and that it was all a misunderstanding? Now she's admitting that he made the comment! neutral

I know Isaiah Washington made the comment because the actor that he was referring to heard the comment himself. He talked about it on Ellen's show.

Find a word that YOU can be called that would not only piss you off but make you feel inhuman. A word that you know, if repeated, could be used as an excuse to kick your ass and possible kill you.

Now that you found that word, how do you feel.

This is no longer a sticks and stones world.....

well i for one understand completely. honestly it does not hit me as much as it might you because i am not gay, but if he was to be fired for it i would not find the action unjust in the least. it just shouldn't be tolerated. if somebody doesn't say anything or do anything it would seem as if its okay and no shit like that is ever okay.

"Grey's" Creator: Isaiah Insulted Everyone
Posted Jan 24th 2007 2:49PM by TMZ Staff

Moments after reports circulated that Isaiah Washington checked into rehab, "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shondra Rhimes weighed in with a statement which sounds like she's hedging her bets on her embattled star:

"I speak for all the executive producers here at 'Grey's Anatomy' when I say that Isaiah Washington's use of such a disturbing word was a shocking and dismaying event that insulted not only gays and lesbians everywhere but anyone who has ever struggled for respect in a world that is not always accepting of difference ... We applaud and encourage Isaiah's realization that he needs help and his subsequent choice to seek immediate treatment for his behavioral issues."

What Rhimes didn't mention, was whether Washington would be fired or not. TMZ spies in high places in the production of "Grey's Anatomy" say Washington's fate will be determined by ratings, not moral outrage -- namely, whether his presence helps or hurts the show.

Dont' they do it because rehab prevents them from having to answer the press, etc. for 6 to 8 weeks? It's kind of like weathering the storm in shelter, right?

That's what all the congressmen do. shrug

i dont really know what the answer is. i am kind of amazed and happy that it is getting this much attention, because it certainly reflects change is happening, and people are becoming aware, and not just gay folk. even as little as 2 years ago, i don't think people would much care.

but i don't know what the answer is. i think firing may be a little on the harsh side, but i also don't think there is a whole lot of other options that carry a weighty enough punishment either.

so true.

actually if it had been the other way around, and the Knight guy or whoever he is would have said the n-word, a little hype would have been thrown around, but i bet you they wouldn't have even thought of firing him. thats just the way this world and society is. i think michael richards got off quite easy if you ask me. they didn't stir it up enough in his situation.

the same people in here ranting and raving about the f-word are the same ones who probably took the richard's situation and defended him. and this is all i got to say on the situation. thank you have a nice day biggrin

i disagree. richards wil never find substantial work in the public eye again. mel gibson however, got off way too easily.

and who in here defended richards? i certainly didnt

Interesting that this person just assumes that you guys defend Richards yet condemn Washington.

You know, kinda like the opposite of what it appears they are doing.

Both words are said out of hate and neither carries more weight than the other. Anyone who thinks that one is worse than the other is a hypocrite, imo.

Hate is hate, and there are many, many targets of hate. It seems to me that many people only seem to become outraged if they can identify personally with the ones that are being targeted and I think there is where a lot of the problems lie.

Perky talk show host Rachael Ray made disparaging racial remarks about the woman who gave Ray her big shot at daytime TV -- none other than Oprah Winfrey, according to TMZ sources. It's a shocking account of a dinner that occurred during the period that the show was being sold.

Rewind to December 3, 2005. Ray was at the Century City Shopping Mall in Los Angeles for a book signing. Reps from King World, the production company that was syndicating the show, were shooting the event for its sales presentation.

"Why is she wearing slave drag? She obviously has problems being black."
At around 7:00 PM, Ray, along with seven others, went to Houston's Restaurant in the mall. They sat in a booth in the far right rear of the restaurant. Ray ordered fish and complained to the table it was dry. She was also drinking red wine and lots of it -- one source says a minimum of four big glasses.

We're told Ray became "extremely loud and aggressive," and began dissing Oprah. Sources say she told the group about a portrait of Oprah that sits in the lobby of Harpo Productions in Chicago. It's from the movie "Beloved" and shows Winfrey's back, enhanced with scars. She's also wearing a skirt from the slavery era.

Back at the table, sources say Ray launched into attack mode: "Why is she wearing slave drag? She obviously has problems being black."

But Oprah wasn't Ray's only target. Sources say she told the group how much she liked Jennifer Aniston and then called Brad Pitt a "pussy boy." But her harshest comments were reserved for Angelina Jolie, calling her "a skanky, backdoor c**t."

TMZ contacted the Director of Publicity for Rachael Ray, Charlie Dougiello, who said, "Rachael did attend the dinner referenced and enjoyed wine and good conversation with friends and colleagues. She denies making any of the comments referenced. In fact, there are several words that are attributed to Rachael that she has never uttered in her life."

Dougiello added, "Neither in public nor in private has Rachael made a disparaging or cruel remark about her friend and mentor, Oprah, nor a celebrity couple she has never even met."

Dougiello also said, "There were several associates of Rachael's at that table who, unprompted, agreed that Rachael never made any of the comments she is being accused of making... and it seems very convenient that these accusations are being levied at a time when Rachael's success has focused the public eye on her."

Of course hatred can't be cured, but at the same time he had to do something. He's at risk for being fired and blacklisted for the rest of his life. Plus he's being pressured by ABC to do something, anything to smooth things over. At this point he's just grasping at straws. There's no way he can actually make-up for what he did, at least not to the viewing public. He could very well change his views on homosexuals and learn to accept ppl as they are, but there is no way to show that to the public without it looking insincere. The people who he actually hurt (cast members) and other people around him would feel it, but there's just no way to get the public as a whole to believe it.

It may be that he doesn't have intense hate for gay ppl, but is just uncomfortable and ignorant about what gay people are like. ppl like that tend to think that gay ppl are somehow different and shifty and all that crazy shit. They're going off on what they've heard instead of learning for themselves. But when they spend time with them the walls come down and they really do change. That goes for any type of prejudice. I know ppl (older ppl) who just use that word to describe someone who is gay, not as a malicious remark. Isaiah's use of the word obviously does not fit this category, but it's also possible that he's not all the way on the other side of the spectrum, with hate.

Note: I'm not defending his actions, just defending his ability to change. Maybe he was just conditioned to think certain things about certain ppl and he hasn't actually looked inside and decided for himself what he really thinks. Maybe this situation will actually make him stop and look and learn. I think he could change what with being around TR Knight and truly trying to mend fences, but only if he wants to. Whether or not he does will remain unknown.
