Going under KNIFE in a few weeks I just received formal confirmation for my operation.... I need lots of prayers and positive thoughts directed at me please, between now and 21st Feb.
Having a tumour removed... I have been asured that it will work out well, but still would appreciate the prayers! Thank you.

I had a tumor removed from my abdomen area about 6 years ago. I know how scary surgery can be, but you'll do fine. Stay positive! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

OK, I've had 4 major surgeries and I will tell you that I was so scared the first time and I cried like a baby. I was about 16 at that time and truely afraid of the anesthesia and if I would wake up. Well I'm here to tell you, I woke up all three times! You will do fine,it's perfectly normal to be a little worried or concerned. I will only give you one piece of advice, always get a second opinion or thrid opinion if you are not comfortable with what you have been told. I wish you all the luck and hang in there! I will say a little prayer for you. If you have any questions feel free to message me if I can be of any help to you. [Edited 1/26/07 1:30am]

If they've assured you that all will be well, then it will be as doctors in the U.K. (or anywhere for that matter) don't offer empty reassurances or false hope. I only had an operation recently for the first time and was scared the anaesthetic but the actuall general was fine, a lovely sinking feeling.

As 7kisses said, it's perfectly normal to be worried and/or concerned. The first time I was put under (to get several teeth removed) I was scared out of my mind as well. I remember I went to the oral surgeon's office with my mother and grandmother (it was just a few days after Christmas) and I cried a lot. But everything went fine, and you surgery will go well too. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Just be honest with her, and try to tell her in a way so that she'll understand. The thing is she gets really worried about things, even when our pet rat is a little off colour... She has seen both my parents really ill in hospital and so has a thing about hospitals. SHe assumes that if you go in there you have to be at death's door - thats all she has seen of them really... Thought of taking her to my pre-op...? What you think?

I don't have kids, so I'm not quite sure how to answer that, unfortunately. Do any of you orgers who have kids have any suggestions for FuzzyD? I'm afraid I can't be of much help. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

What you think? i was 10 when my mother had breast cancer surgery. like your daughter my experience with hospitals to that point was sick grandparents that sometimes didn't come home. i was sure my mother was never coming home either. so... i think involving her in any way before hand would be a good thing. perhaps you know of someone that has had surgery or perhaps some of her friends parents have had surgery that she could talk to. and of course kids pick up on any insecurities we may have. be honest i guess. it's easy to be frightened of what we don't know. but if you know what to expect and have some knowledge to back you up then hopefully it won't be as tramatic. but i don't have kids either and only you know what your kid is able to handle.
