I'm so behind this year.

sigh

I haven't seen much of anything this year and I always go to the big benefit Oscar party in Minneapolis and it's just not as fun if I won't know what's going on.

Watch here early tomorrow morning for coverage of the announcement of the 2007 oscar nominees.

excited

in the mean time, i will go ahead and predict the winners, since this year has been pretty predictable.

best picture - babel
best director - scorcese (FINALLY!)
best actress - hellen mirren
best actor - forrest whitaker
best supporting actress - jennifer hudson, possibly meryl streep
best supporting actor - jack nicholson, possibly eddie murphy

your thoughts and predictions?

I pretty much agree with those predictions. Except I've read Streep is expected to be nominated for Best Actress rather than supporting.

for her sake, i hope she ends up in supporting where she has a little bit of a chance.

nothing will stop mirren from winning, i feel sorry for the other 4 nominated.

Is impersonating a real person, actually acting? Or is it some kind of prolonged skit?

Discuss.

Or not. lol

i think the brilliance of that performance was finding the perfect balance of coldness and emotions hidden under the cold of elizabeth.

it actually reminded me of my favorite performance of last year, which was heath ledger in brokeback... same kind of cold emotionless exterior barely holding back raging torrents of emotion.

as an actor, i will tell you it's very hard to balance the two

The only time Heath Ledger's performance connected with me in that movie was when he went to the parents' house, after the death.

I actually preferred Joaquin Phoenix in 'Walk The Line' last year.

I'm not a performer, so I don't know if Phoenix was coasting or not, but I believed him all the way through.

i thought he was good... but i thought she was much better, much subtler and with a lot more depth.

but i thought felicity huffman deserved the oscar last year for her INCREDIBLE performance in transamerica.

Agreed. nod

It was completely... um... un-gimmicky. If you know what I mean.

Good grief, I'm losing my vocabulary. I need to read more.

damon has a pretty good shot of a nom, dicaprio has a good chance, but the problem is he is eligable for departed and blood diamond, and good in both. so, don't be suprised if he just misses having enough votes to be nominated because the votes were split between the two
