The child is with his aunt, so I don't know that he needs rescuing. The mother certainly needs help (as does any addict).

That poor baby. The mom looks like she's been doing some HARD living. She really needs help, and the baby needs a stable home.

It happens. I've seen it where the child is outside the bingo hall for long hours while the parent(s) are spending their welfare money disbelief

Don't go to Iceland. You might be alarmed at the number of babies left outside in the cold while their moms shop. lol

Too bad there's no test to prevent these morons from having kids. It's always the poor children who suffer.

but on the other hand.... i have a good friend who was on meth during her pregnancy. she didn't "abandon" her daughter exactly, but left her with her sister. when her sister had some problems of her own the baby (one month older than my daughter) ended up in the foster system. my friend worked her ASS off, cleaning up her life, getting herself sorted out and then fought to get her daughter back. things were made difficult b/c the foster family wanted to adopt the girl, and the CASA worker (who was supposed to be evaluating my friend to help with getting the family back together) was on the side of the foster parents. fortunately the judge remembered that the goal was to get mother and daughter back together.

my friend has been clean for years now, is going back to school to be a dental assistant and working to provide for herself and her daughter. she lives in one house with her mom, sister, and nephew, and things are going very right for her now. her hard work is being well rewarded, especially by the love between mother and daughter.

so, sometimes those that don't seem to deserve a chance to have children can turn things around and be the best mother and father in the world, once they realize that the most important thing we have is our children. nod

for my friend. mushy rose
