The Olden Days

aaah the good old days mushy

These are the eldest 8 of my grandmas 14 siblings

My grandma on the far left

The whole family - my grandma with the looped braids

For some reason looking at these make me feel sad, like a lifetime ago, memories that are lost.

It's amazing--they're practically all younger than us in those photos. Life moves so fast.

Your grandma looks a bit like you, doesn't she? That makes it even weirder. When I see young pics of old relatives, I feel almost like I've lived a whole life and died already--I see my face in them.

sad

none of the people in my photos are alive.

this is my great grandpa william

this is a pic of my dad, i think it's positively freaky how much they look alike. eek

this is great grandpa william holding my grandpa asher when he was a baby. i believe this was taken around 1902 or 03. looking at how old grandpa is it'd have to be around then.

this is on my grandma's side (asher's wife), this is one of her aunts, lillie mae. it's weird how ALL the baby's in our family look like this. i did, my daughter did, my cousins did.... when i saw this pic the first time i was shocked at the resemblance.

here's that same baby a little older, and with her little sister liddie belle.

this is my grandpa in 1933

and my grandma in 1935.

i have others but i think this is enough. lol

Fauxie

At Christmas I saw some wonderful pictures of my father, his sisters and their parents (both who've passed away, my grandfather before I really knew him sad ), but I didn't get a chance to scan them. We did get some nice pictures with my nan (last remaining grandparent who's a blood relative) and grandad though.

There probably are pics of some of my relatives online though. I believe my great-great (or is great-great-great?) grandfather was involved in catching notorious criminal Charlie Peace.

I'll do a search online. smile

Oh, and a female relative who was on the Titanic and survived. She was an artist and when I was young I found a small sketch book of hers in my other nan's cupboard and duly added a few stunning drawings of my own. disbelief

Yep. I don't recall the name now, but I believe we've still got the sketch book somewhere, complete with my artistic efforts. neutral

My cousin Julia would know about it. She's been working on a family tree for a while now and looking into the relative who was involved in catching cat burglar and murderer Charlie Peace too.

Just looked on a Titanic survivors list but didn't see the name and recognise it. I should find out what it is again really. It'd be interesting to look into her life in more detail, if possible.

great great grandparents seated in front (1912)
my great grandmother seated beside her father
her husband standing behind with his hand on her shoulder

that same year (might have been the same day, who knows) their son was married
my paternal grandparents (oh to have a waist that small!)
my skinny sister wore that dress to a bridal shower fashion show when she was 16
but she was built like a toothpick (grandma was 18, grandpa was 23)
