Jehovah's Witnesses scandal

I just saw on the Nashville news a story about two women who were sexually molested as children in the Jehovah's Witness organization. One lady was 8 when the alleged incident occured. She said it was an elder member and when it was reported it was basically her word against his. He said he didn't do it and of course, nothing else was done about it. The gave this website and they will be sponsoring a march in New York.

Exactly, the people that do this crap to kids are found ALL over the world everywhere, not just in any one organization. This is OLD news even.

npgmplsTN, you may as well have made a LONG list of ALL the organizations, countries, places, etc. these sick individuals seem to gravitate towards. It is not fair to point out just one group. Let's not let this turn into some sort of Witness bashing thread many other threads used to turn into "before" the NEW rules came out. Let's not waste Ian's time with having to lock it up.

This is not just a Jehovah's Witness scandal" it is a "people scandal". I have worked with abused and neglected kids and their stories would break your heart, as would some of the coping methods they've developed. It is sad that sexual abuse, physical abuse, or emotional abuse, are only reported when dealing with an organized religion or agency, such as day care centers, the Catholic Church, and now the Jehovah's Witness Church. It is much more prevalent than most people realize. Take a look at 5 of your closest friends, and at least one has suffered some form of abuse or neglect.

As a side note: Sexual abuse has nothing to do with sex as much as it does with control and power issues. Those that prey on the innocence of our children often do so because they feel they have no power or control anywhere else in their life and that this one person, this child, is completely at their mercy.

If you are as appalled about the situation as you sound then do something about it, either by helping one of the young that have been abused. You can do this through becoming a visiting resource to a child in a group home or residential center near you, or by helping to change some of the laws pertaining to abusers.

I know of a case where a gentleman had molested a boy. He received two years in prison and was released. He stated to me that he had only done it the "one time" and that the counsellors within the prison felt that he wouldn't have done it then even except for the situation of his father dying and the deep depression he felt about that. However, I know of at least two others that he has abused and there are more. He took in young boys, sheltered them, even became a foster parent to two of them. But yet he was convincing enough that his neighborhood (full of young kids) welcomed him back with open arms and he married a woman with young grandsons AND his church accepted him back and allows him contact with the youth group. These individuals are very convincing. They have to be to convince a child to do the things they convince them to do. Stiffer jail sentences should be enforced, but they aren't. So write your congressman and convince him to help to protect our children.

I agree, its a "people" problem, no matter what religious organization you're from. But I wonder in these cases if the religious group interfered with justice for the victims to save face.

Its heartbreaking for both the child and the adult.

Hey, chill out peeps, I ain't trying to start nothing. I just saw it on the news and thought maybe some people might want to know. I am not singling them out. This stuff is happening in all religions, within the school systems, Department of Children Services, ect. I find it disturbing when anyone mistreats a child. In the Nashville area news yesterday, the was this story about J.W.'s, a DCH worker arrested for sexually molesting a child, a minister with something like 33 counts against him for having sex with a kid...of course, there is the 21 year old teacher in GA (I think it's GA) who had sex with I think 7 of of her students. I also find the case of the two teens in FL for beating their father to death with an aluminum bat disturbing, as well. It leaves me to wonder, what will become of the world?
