Bail Set At $150,000 For 24-Year-Old

CALUMET CITY, Ill. -- A Calumet City man remains jailed, accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend with a stun gun in order to rape her.

Thomas Payton, 24, was charged with attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault of his ex-girlfriend.

His bail was set Tuesday at $150,000.


On Jan. 11, the 30-year-old Hammond, Ind., woman was standing at the sink of Payton's apartment, washing dishes, when he shocked her in the neck with a stun gun, Assistant State's Attorney Christine Opp said.

Payton grabbed her and demanded sex, causing the woman to struggle and scream for help, Opp said.

Calumet City Police Cmdr. Kevin Glaser said Payton shocked the woman two more times as he made more sexual demands and tried to remove the woman's clothing.

Neighbors heard the cries for help and called police.

Opp said the victim's neck was badly swollen from the repeated shocking.

Payton used an older model stun gun, Glaser said, one that resembles an electric razor with two prongs that must touch the victim to emit a shock.
