im starting to miss cassettes

first there were cassettes
i didnt care if i couldnt quite make out the words to cookie jar or allegience, it was still magical music to me ears. the vinyl boots were still there but the casette for me held a special mystical quality (dont ask)
then came the cd boots the artwork often being better then the quality of songs and shows but i didnt complain , not publicly anyway.
then there was napster, sure folks abused it but for obtaining out of print stuff, it was an awsome gift. now napster gone and all of the other share sites that attach more crap to your computer than a respirator team.
prince now tells me that his next release will be sound board quality? what the hell planet am i on ?
god
i miss casettes

I don't miss cassettes but I do miss cassette players and record players too for that matter! Just because I have tons of tapes and vinyl and no way to hear any of them sad

Cassettes usually always get mangled in the player, and you have to pull out reels of tape. Or you have to fix them with a pencil by turning the inside. !

not so much the phisicality of the casette so much as great music etched on a broken stone of sorts

How come you always see the tape sitting alongside roads, esp. highways/freeways? It looks so pretty... all shiny.

It's always been a mystery to me. Sort of like the tennis shoes up on the telephone wires.
I mean, like, where is the sun?

the funny thing is that my mom bought a new stereo system but she had to special order the turntable for it. She was tripped out. her point was that not everything that was on vinyl isn't on cd or is hard to locate...especially some of them oldies.

Another cd's are better quality, with anything new, it loses some intimacy with the music. You know the album cover...just walking over and movin' the needle...and wasn't funny, I had one of the first cd players amongst my friends and they were like...you are silly for getting one...omg

I like cassettes. CD's are a "miniature" version of vinyl. And yes - CD's skip just like vinyl. That is one area that has to be really improved. I still have my vinyls but why go out and buy all the CD's, then all of a sudden CD's become extinct.

I do not miss the careful, intensive, tricky , time consuming surgeries performed on countless cassettes that had been thru the ringer 1 too many times ( or thru someone's f***ed up tape player)!!!

Shausler, it was my intent to comment on your thread earlier. Even though I have a good bit of CDs, I have some vinyl albums too. What I do is I put all of my vinyl albums on Maxell XL II 100 minute blank tapes. Now I know that those tapes are made for recording CDs, but you should try recording your favorite album on those tapes. You will be amazed at the amazing sound quality. Albums that are digitally remastered especially soung good on these tapes. Albums in my collection that are remastered are Miles Davis'Nefertiti, Steely Dan's The Best Of Steely Dan-Reeling In The Years and Chaka Khan's What Cha Gonna Do For Me?. Also jazz albums like Freddie Hubbard's great album Red Clay sounds good on these blank tapes as well. Plus a lot of these tapes I play on my walkman. You can pick up greater details in music on a walkman. So yes, I still play cassettes pretty regularly.

I'm still living in the past because I play my vinyl records all the time...lol...

Many of the old albums I play have yet to make it to CD,so I'm thankful that I held on to these albums all these years.
