How young is too young?

This is not a sex related thread. rolleyes

My son is a year and a half, is obsessed with music and he insists that he hear his favorite songs 500x a day. Music truly, truly makes him very happy, so I can't just say "no" all the time. He has recently discovered how to use headphones and does not pull them off. He thinks they are pretty amazing.

Do you think he's too young for his own little mp3 player? It's not to spoil him, it's to prevent me from going insane listening to that music.

I know that I will have to make sure that I keep the volume levels low so as to not damage his ears...but is it silly to get something like this for a kid this young?

And even if I keep the volume fairly low, I wonder if it's still damaging to his little ears.

Im not sure. He might turn the volume up himself when you're not about. So that could be a problem.

Very true. I wonder if they make ones with a low volume maximum.

Is it even safe for an 18 mounth year old to even wear earphones?

Get him a "barney" CD, his songs are the best.

Way too young for his own player but not too young for you to keep him connected with music without a player smile

He is not interested in 3 line jingles. He loves real songs.

And I am not sure if it's safe to let them wear them. confused

I'd never, ever leave him alone with it. I worry about the wire going around his neck.

Iam sure you would research it, but heck, better make sure. He might get some major tinnitus or something otherwise

Are there any parent's resource websites? I think I'd be looking for that, to see if there's any info on how it could potentially be damaging to the ears. Maybe ask his doctor? lol I don't know.

My initial guess is he's just too young, his senses are still very much developing. But I wouldn't want to discourage his love for music either...

Awwwww. You made a THREAD! touched

I think thats a sweet idea, to get him one.

I think young babes are naturally attracted to music, and it's up to us wether we keep them into it or not, yanno?

I say def go for it.

I'd ask your pedi about the headphones, but like you said, as long as you keep it low, I bet it wouldn't be a prob.

Awwww, this is so much better than all these lam-o masturbation threads.

I was just curious to see what most people think of the idea.

He's been humming little tunes since he was around 10 months old. Now he tries to sing along and he can't even speak in sentences yet...it's pretty cute. mushy

Ok, I swear that I am not making this up. He really tries to hum and sing along to anything...absolutely anything musical.

I put a youtube vid up of him the other day so that my family could see just how much he loves music.

He got a guitar from one of his grandmothers this xmas. We just don't have it yet (she lives out of town and has to drop it off). He's also got a little keyboard and a little drum. He plays with those, but really he loves listening and singing along to music the most.

And Daisy JUST started sing that stupid Barney song and Happy Birthday, and she's almost 2.

I think ya have a little Hanson on your hands. giggle

Ask his Pediatrician about the earphones. IF you go with earphones get the big ones with a lot of padding to help absorb the vibrations. Personally, I wouldn't do it.
Sounds like he needs to have early music lessons. expose him to a variety of music, especially the classics and jazz.
Young children are particularly attracted to rhythm and he's not too young to have drums and rhythm instruments. The keyboard is good too. He's not too young for any of that.
He's almost old enough for the Suzuki violin and piano lessons.

hell no he isn't too young. I spoil the shit out of my children.

If it were ME, I'd get him wireless headphones with a volume limiter built in. They'd cost, but who cares?
