Hey. I just got an 80gb Ipod and an external memory drive so I can back it up but don't know how to back it up? Any clues? Thanks in advance.....

The Ipod should not be your primary storage. Put your music on the hard drive and sync it via Itunes. The primary place for the music is the hard drive. If you want a backup other than the external use another external.

1 Edit - Preferences
2 Advanced - General
3 Check "Keep iTunes Music folder organized"
4 OK
5 Click the Change button
6 Select your new external drive (D: or E: or whatever)( create an iTunes folder if you're gonna have something else on that drive)
7 OK
8 Advanced - Consolidate library - OK

It HAS to work.
Did you take all the steps.

Macs, you say?
I think in macs you don't have an edit menu. You have a direct iTunes menu and from there you can follow the rest of the process.

I take it the external drive is already formatted. You can see a drive letter it in the explorer, can't you?

And I guess you already have an iTunes library in your mac.

The hard drive shouldn't be a problem. Can you see the external from the finder when it's plugged in and turned on?

It's like half a gazillion. nod

I think you only hear so many problems with iPods because there are so freakin' many of them. They're cool, but they don't suspend the laws of physics.
