Here's a fun little quiz!

http://www.gotoquiz.com/w...o_you_have

My result:

What American accent do you have? Your Result: The Midland "You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.Philadelphia The South The Inland North The Northeast The West Boston North Central What American accent do you have?Quiz Created on GoToQuiz

I took the quiz Uhope was referring to, and I got the same results as he/she did... I tend to go for that "neutral" mixture of American and Canadian accents (I think) when I'm speaking English. When I try to speak with an English accent it sounds like I'm speaking in character. I guess I'm bit of a snob when it comes to accents, not when it comes to native speakers in English-speaking countries but rather when Icelanders are speaking English. To me, English spoken with a thick Icelandic accent often sounds to me like the person really doesn't know "proper" English lol .... or that the person doesn't have a large vocabulary, which is often the case although I know of a few exceptions.

Oh, and one thing. Björk's accent is NOT real. IMO she just puts on this accent in interviews to maintain her quirky image. I've heard some interviews with her where she speaks English, almost with some kind of English accent.

Here's a silly commercial which demonstrates what the Icelandic accent symbolizes to me biggrin :

My result: The Northeast

Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

that's funny....I was raised in the south.

What American accent do you have? Your Result: The Inland North You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."The Midland The Northeast Philadelphia The South The West Boston North Central What American accent do you have?Quiz Created on GoToQuiz

That spookydude will tell you how much the Norfolk accent (county where I live) sucks. It is truly appalling. I do not speak with any accent, and iam truly thankful for that.

Northern accent is a bit annoying, but hey, there you go.

Ya know, the only people I've ever met that actually said "aboot" were Americans trying to be funny. Canadians have a wide range of accents, some of them downright goofy, but "aboot" doesn't make it's way into anybody's speech up here.

Huh, I've met a few.

"aboot" is more of an eastern thing
i think we in the west say "aboat"

and i think the way we do "r" sounds like we are pirates

Don't worry, no offense was taken. smile

It's just that I've been all over this country and not once actually heard "aboot" from anyone who wasn't American or joking.

For the record, when I say "about" it comes out sorta like "a bow". No t. razz

Americans have it all wrong. We don't say "aboot". We say "aboat".

I have only ever heard people from NFLD and some parts of NS say "aboot" but that's it...and I have lived all over Canada.

giggle just saw this

and meow, that's just it... we don't hear it. we can't. but others notice different inflections. just as we notice their different inflections biggrin

damn lol It's been a while since I've seen a Bjork interview. Maybe her accent has worn off due to her environment. ie: Tina Turner, Madonna lol Kinda like MJ's voice.....people were saying that his real voice is octaves deeper than the one he puts on. falloff
