Ex-Moderator | Within 20 minutes of arrival, I was invited to polka with a little old grey-haired man who was at least a foot shorter than me. I declined. Not enough beer yet.
Unfortunately, that was my only invitation of the evening! None of my friends actually wanted to polka!! They just came for the beer! And within about an hour of arriving it turned into some kind of frat party. Overall it was ok, but I only give it a 5 out of 10. harrumph. |

And DAMN straight guys for not asking you! Besides the old geezer. But you turned him down. Cruely. Did you actually say "Sorry, not enough beer yet" in his face? Somehow I hope you did. It is SO going to be my new turn down line...

It is SO going to be my new turn down line... Goodness no. I just shyly smiled and said no, but thank you! He was an adorable old man. My friend said he'd seen him there before, asking all the ladies to dance. It made me sad for him. Going out alone, just wanting a partner to polka with. But some of the older couples there were hardcore! They had matching outfits and everything. After 10pm, though, all the college-y kids started pouring in, and then everyone's just slamming their big mugs of beer and yelling and carrying on and we were in the back so I couldn't see the dance floor anymore and, well, yeah it wasn't so much fun after that. |

oh, I sniffed it. It's this weird tobacco snuff that's got a menthol effect or something. They put it on this little wooden board and the milkmaid (cocktail waitress) counts to 3 (in german) and she thumps the board with this lever thing that makes a knocking noise and I guess makes it travel up your nose more or something? In any case, it's really weird! The menthol makes you feel like you're inhaling Vicks. Pulls you out of a tipsy haze for a minute or two. though. |

So... you think that Prince ever did the Polka?
There is a genre of Mexican music (NorteƱa I believe) that uses a a Polka beat. I don't like it, but it's pretty popular. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Gasthof's. Though I hear there's good polka at Nye's on occasion also. If I took the time to read, I would see that you already said that. Haven't polkaed at either one, but our arts programming department at the U of MN took John Waters to Nye's several years back. He loved it.

There was a time Nye's was really quite popular with the hipster crowd. I always wanted to go when the lady was doing the piano karaoke, but somehow never made it. |
