oh, and as long as i have to carry around a discman, i'm going to pretend to be one of those hipster luddites who doesn't have time to figure out all that mp3 crap. i'm going to slap a couple of sonic youth stickers on the cd player i bought, then give it a tumble down my front steps for that "distressed" look. everyone will think i'm cool and dangerous.

Anx, can't your mom just send the charger to you?

I say screw the ipod or the nano ...IMHO you're paying for the name.
Surething, you live in PA., I live in NH. ON A DIRT ROAD no less....and even we have had cell phones and caller ID for years and I got one of these for christmas.
http://www.battle.ch/blog...gear_2.jpg it's 2 gbs...plenty big enough.
I was intimidated at first but it's very easy to use and you don't have to download music, if you don't want to. Just stick a CD you already own into your computer, and the music will copy to a library. Once the music is on your computer it can then go into your MP3 player licketysplit. biggrin

i could ask my mom to mail me the charger, but the complications of your suggestion are just way too frustrating to go into here. trust me on this.

i don't have an iPod/nano. i agree - you're paying more for the name/design than you are for quality. i have a creative labs zen xtra - it's ugly as sin, but it's 40gb, it's dependable and it cost less than even the cheapest iPod at the time i bought it.

whatever the heck that thing is you described there at the end, that's pretty much how any mp3 player works, no?

and 2gb...that's about 500 songs. NOT HARDLY ENOUGH! lol

oh...lol moms difficult I gather? wink
oh and yeah...my comments about the ipod weren't necessarily addressed to you...just in general I guess. smile
I assume that's how they all work....I was just letting surething now it's a pretty simple process and no downloading required.
Mine is Sexy! and 2 gbs is plenty for me and I'm assuming would be plenty for Surething too. I don't have to have every possible song on me at all times...you can add and remove stuff off of yours....no? wink
"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

yeah, i have software with mine that lets me put stuff on and take stuff off. but i do public transportation every day, so it's nice to have lots of music on me when i'm sitting on a train or a bus. and if it's the middle of the day at work and i'm bored and i suddenly want to hear that obscure beck b-side i have in my collection, hey! i can call it right up! or i can listen to 8 hours of non-stop prince without having a single song repeat. or or or...

you can find the zen xtra with 40gb on ebay for next to nothing these days. they're not pretty to look at, and they're not the tinest (they're about the size of a cassette walkman, maybe a little smaller), but it's tons of space for cheap, you can download more different kinds of music files than you can with iPod, and it'll last you a long time.

just make sure you get a second charger for it, just in case. mad

I had a similiar situation involving my mp3 player. I went home for the holidays and was rushing to catch a flight, so I accidentally left my firewire cord at my family's house.

Now I'm 3,000 miles away and too arsed to have the thing shipped.

I haven't been able to upload any new music on mp3 player since early November because I'm also having connectivity issues with my machine -- which I'm hoping to get serviced tonight.

And I'm having other computer issues with my ollddddd laptop being low on memory.

Pretty much, I'm "de-volved" electronically 'til spring. Apple's new OS X doesn't come out til late April/early May (and, nah, I don't wanna switch back) so I'm waiting.

While I was in Indiana last month, I took all my precious electronic creature comforts - my laptop, my mp3 player, my battery powered toothbrush, etc. - and in the chaos of the trip, I forgot to pack the charger cord for my mp3 player before I returned home, so it's still at my mother's house.

And OF COURSE, my old ass Creative Labs Zen Xtra takes some crazy wacko hard-to-find charger, so I've just had to listen to my mp3 player sparingly until all the juice in the battery wore out, or until I could get back to my mom's place to get the charger, or until I could find a replacement.

Well, the mp3 player's battery died this week, on Wednesday. sad

And I've been going INSANE for some kind of replacement headphone music thingie.

So. This morning I ordered from Amazon what I *HOPE* is the correct replacement charger, and this afternoon I resigned myself to buying a portable CD player for use until I can get my mp3 player charged back up.

I'm totally devolving! I feel like I should be shaving with a piece of broken glass and wiping my hiney with tree leaves! bawl

If I don't get my mp3 charger soon, I'm going to grow a long beard and start walking around my neighborhood carrying a big bundle of sticks on my back and singing plainchants about Thor or some shit.

Has anyone else been forced to de-evolve lately?
[Edited 1/12/07 10:23am]

I thought this had something to do with Devo lol

Why don't you get your mom to fed ex the charger?

yes this has happened to me, I have my car set up to work with my iPod its actually quite cool, its a direct line in to the stereo, it doesn't use an FM signal.

However just before Christmas it has had a few problems forcing me to use CD's omfg I feel like a caveman now. I haven't had time to take it into the dealership
