true. i've had no problem with mine so far...the only one that's visible on me is the one on the fingers of my left hand. the ones on my arm i usually cover up, not outta respect for the dress code or whatever but because it's cold year-round in the office i work in so i always wear a hoodie at all times. lol

I work for a corporate Bank. WHile for the most part it has been a continuing lax of piercings and tats, Being on the executive floor, I had to turn someone away from a job for having a lip ring.

The answer to your question is..He's NOT. People who tattoo their face either need to be set for life financially or get into some sort of "business" wherre that doesn't matter. And do you know where they usually end up? On the street asking for money at 25 years of age. They are already against the system "as evidenced with tattoos on their face" and I am sure most of them have regaled to having others help them and coast through life.

Sorry, I have no time or respect to people who do something to themselves that will purposefully put them out of work. I mean what do they expect other than a life of living on the street.

something we see here in the Bay Area. And tattoos aren't free. Are they begging for money to put more ink on their faces?

I'm in the Bay area too. Yeah money for more tats or dye for their hair. I no longer give money to anyone homeless under 40. I know that sound callous, but many of these folks can work, but don't.

omfg they should've known better than to wear it to their friggin interview! there's retainers for most of the visible facial piercings, i think--during the work week i wear a retainer for my septum piercing.

if they had had a retainer for their piercing to make it look less conspicuous, would you had let them have the job? hmmm

She didn't. But she asked about it because it was new. She said that if it was an issue for us, it was for her. She also said she was way more dressed up for the interview than she liked and was wondering is she could wear short sleeves (showing off her tats). Nice girl, but there is no way she would have worked out on this floor. I am sure an executive would have approached my boss and they would have gotten rid of her (she was going to temp). The thing is it's not me, nor is there a "policy", but I know how it is on this floor and image and perception are part of the job.

Callous, yes, but I don't give them money either. I can't help but think that most of them are perfectly healthy & intelligent (and even happy!), and have simply chosen that path.

They have every right to do so, but I don't feel obligated to support them the same as the mentally unstable Vietnam Vet.

ok, but i'm not sure if the question was answered?
if someone came in with facial peircings, but had retainers in them, would you have hired them?

It depends on where they were. But probably not. A different floor, sure. It's kinda strict on this floor.

Begging for pot/money for pot doesn't tug at my heartstrings either, but now we're getting off subject!

that's another thing--she shoulda waited way beforehand to get pierced and perhaps looked into getting a retainer for it. that's really kinda bad...and if she didn't like being all dressed up then perhaps she coulda tried to look for some other job that's more lax with appearance.

geez...should be common sense that most employers won't appreciate people showing tattoos, so she coulda just sucked it up and bought either long-sleeved shirts or some cardigans that she coulda used to cover up her arms. there's plenty of stuff out there that'll allow for some sorta individuality while at work, while looking presentable. commenting on how she was more dressed up like that...i probably would've turned her down too.

It was for a temp position. I think she nor her angency put much thought into what places would be ok for her to temp at. But had this been for the Marketing Dept, she may have had a chance. But they all wear jeans, have an "environmentally controlled area" and are pretty much afraid to come to the floor I am on.

Oh and it wasn't until she mentioned her tats and the fact she wasn't comfortable being in corp attire. It just wasn't a good fit for all parties.

Shannon Boyd, 17, bought a wig to cover the locks she sports under her Tweety Bird costume. Not appropriate, she was told, because the wig wasn't her natural hair color.

true. i've worked for temp agencies before and was always given the impression to be dressed up, no matter what.

yeah, that'd be the definite kicker for me too. kinda unfortunate, but if you can't dress up some then well...
