Sick Days

How many sick days do you get a year? How many do you actually use?

I'm home sick today, I was yesterday too.

In total that means 4 sick days for me this school year. I hate being out, but there is no way i could have dragged my butt into work. Damn stomach flu got me.

I doubt there will be any real repercussions for my absence, but I'm sure I will get a letter that goes in my personnel file reprimanding me. sad

I was only out 3 days all last year and I got one. pout

I'm not going to worry too much, but it makes me wonder how they handle this in the non warm and fuzzy corporate universe.

How do they "punish" you guys for being sick?

we don't get 'sick' days - we get 'paid time off' time that covers illness, vacation, mental health days, whatever. and we don't get nearly enough PTO days! mad

though i did stretch out my time off to the max last year - i took extended sick leave for two months and i had to take a bereavement leave...PLUS i maxed out all my paid time off time. it was a rough freakin' year. lol

this year i'm going to use most of my PTO for my iceland trip, and if i get sick the rest of the year, i'm just going to come to work and spread my germs.

Yeah see it's way different for me because I only have 180 work days a year, the rest we have off. We get 12 sick and 2 personal days...and they roll over if you don't use them all but they get pissed when you actually use them.

my job is kinda like that. they get really uptight if more than one person per shift isn't at work on any given day. i think we're allowed to call in sick twice per every six months or something like that.

but if you're sick, you're sick. get a doctor's note if you have to. they can't discipline you if you really have something wrong.

check out my sick policy Kim.....

basically, we have to be sick for 10 business days before we can get paid HALF TIME. yeah, that's right, I have to be sick for a total of 14 das before I can get half pay. and you don't get paid for those first ten days, you only get half pay for whatever days you miss AFTER you already miss those first two weeks.

I've never been that sick my whole life lol

so I just go in and cough and sneeze on everyone and everything.

I guarantee I have the worst sick policy around nod

We get Combined Time Off (CTO). I accumulate about a day every two weeks and on top of that I get one paid floating holiday.

It ends up working out pretty well. smile

You're kinda damned if you do, damned if you don't. If you try and call of, they get all crabby and act like you're lying to them. If you go into work sick, they complain that you should have stayed home instead of making everyone else in the office sick.

If an employee has a long history of calling off, I can understand management getting on their case. They earned the reputation. But if you seldom ever call off, the reverse should hold true - they should trust you and be more understanding about it.

As much as I hate to do it, I usually try to drag my sick ass to the office, and wait till they see me and tell me to go back home.
