Neither party are innocent, but microsoft have not copied apple this time round. If you research you'll see that the sidebar and widgets were supposed to compete with apple's dock, then apple introduced widgets too. I run both OSes, and to be honest, my productivity sucks on a mac cause everything's so pretty - can't beat them for video editing and music production though, which is what I use it for.

Basically, mac have created a raving fanbase, and good for them because microsoft's PR team suck - they hammer on about productivity and security and not "this looks cool" or "this is so fun" - that team should be fired.
