I've had bloody nipples before, so I know your pain. I'm a runner and I've trained for a marathon last year. Luckily, I avoided bloody nipples during future sessions by wearing proper tops and using precaution. Avoid wearing cotton t-shirts during extensive running sessions. The cotton rubs up against that skin and causes much friction. Some other blends of fabric like polyester do this as well. I wear Nike Dri-Fit running shirts and shorts when I train outdoors. They are made of a material that absorbs sweat and acts against friction. Many different companies make them: New Balance, Adidas, Champs, etc. If you don't immediate access to this type of material and must train in cotton fabric, do put adhesive bandages over your nipples. It works and prevents friction. Also, if I run too much, too frequently I get chapped between my thighs, so I put petroleum jelly down there before a run. It works. You can treat your nipple sores now by using Neosporin or petroleum jelly. Also, consult some good running websites like Runners World. They have a good forum that covers a wealth of topics. Or just Google "runners forum"/"running forum"/"running tips"/etc. etc. and you'll come across some discussion sites and pages.

No prob. And Congratulations on qualifying for NY this year. That marathon is so difficult to enter! I'd be lucky this year just to do the NYC Half. ...org issues edit... [Edited 2/23/07 14:50pm]

Band-aids tend to do the trick, but I'd definitely suggest shaving any chest hair (if you haven't already)....I had a troop a couple years ago who bled like he'd just gotten both nipps pierced..... rather disconcerting....but the band-aids hooked him right on up, until we discovered the shaving chest hair part....
Good luck at the NYC marathon....maybe one day I'll follow your lead and enter a 10k..... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

Yep, I heard about the whole band-aid thing. Isn't that the most annoying pain, having rough fabric rubbing against your nipples?

All kidding aside,
the situation with my nipples is kinda fucked up. See, back when I was young, rebellious & wreckless, I got a massive tattoo of the Virgin Mary on my chest, with her eyes positioned where my nipples are. Now, whenever I run a marathon, I don't know if my nipples are bleeding because of the stress or because it's one of those divine miracles where the Holy Mother is crying blood. And yet, that's not the fucked up part of this story. Nowadays, whenever I cross the finish line, I'm greeted by a huge throng of Mexicans who've trekked all the way up from the city Our Lady of Guadeloupe, just so they can witness what they think is "El Milagro de La Madonna"! At first, I was cool with this , because I was able to use this opportunity to unload a bunch of tour T-Shirts that I had stocked up in my basement (they all had the phrase " I saw Blood, Sweat & Tears live!" on the front. I purchased 'em years ago in get rich quick scheme involving the band's 'comeback'. That ended up going bust real fast .....don't ask ). But I ran out of this merchandise a long time ago. Now, I just want my life back. Or, in the immortal words of Roberto Duran, "No mas, no mas....".
