Bride's Joke Breaks Off Wedding Ceremony

VIENNA, Austria -- A bit of bridal humor apparently fell flat at an Austrian wedding ceremony.

When the bride was asked if she'd take this man to be her wedded husband, she jokingly said "no." She was apparently trying to be funny.

The official performing the civil ceremony wasn't laughing. The ceremony was immediately canceled, despite the bride's sobs.

An Austrian newspaper, Oberoesterreichischen Nachrichten, reported that the couple had to wait two and a-half months before another ceremony could be arranged.

Officials at the city's registry office declined to comment directly, but noted the incident was highly unusual.

Well I am from Austria and I haven't heard about it hmmm. But then again the Oberösterreichischen Nachrichten are a small local newspaper, so I am kinda impressed that story made it to the wordwide news or at least the GD of the org lol.

even though her joke was not appropriate, i think they really took the situation a little too seriously. I mean they had to wait another 2 months to get married and pay for expenses all over again? I know her husband-to-be is pissed at her.

he would be pissed at her because if she had kept the joke idea in her head, then they would be married by now...by prolonging the time to actually get married, they will have to spend more money. who the hell wants to spend extra money on shit if they (in other circumstances) didn't have to?

Oh come on now, how was she supposed to know that she wouldn't get married if she cracked a joke? She obviously knew that her husband wouldn't mind (otherwise she wouldn't have done it) and really, he was the only one who had any right to be offended. That stupid official decided to actively create this situation when he could and should have just done his job instead, so he is definitely the one people have a reason to be pissed off at.

well let's just agree to disagree on this one. had the tables been turned i'd been pissed off at my husband to be because he would be costing me extra funds that would have been spent on the honeymoon. And besides, i take marriage seriously, why use that time to joke around anyway, that's what the bachlorette/bacholor party is for. she and the official is just plain ole whack.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
