21-Year-Old Smoked Pot With New Orleans Friend

CHICAGO -- A 21-year-old man claimed a woman used "voodoo" to make him throw a 6-year-old boy down a flight of stairs after wandering into a stranger's home while high on drugs over the weekend on the South Side.

Ricardo Reeves, 21, of the 200 block of Cornell Avenue in Calumet City, was charged with battery, assault and attempted aggravated battery of a child, according to a police lieutenant assigned to the Grand Crossing District.

Late Saturday night, Reeves wandered into a building in the 7200 block of South Bennett Avenue after smoking cannabis at another location, according to the lieutenant. Reeves walked into the residence of a mother, father, 6-year-old boy and an 18-month-old whom he did not know and tried to fight the father, according to the lieutenant. He then threw the boy down a flight of stairs, the lieutenant said.


The child, who landed on a second-floor landing, was taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital for observation. The boy did not suffer life-threatening injuries, according to the lieutenant.

Reeves told police he had been smoking cannabis with a female friend from New Orleans, and the woman, who practiced "voodoo," drugged him, and "made him" throw the boy down the stairs, the lieutenant said.

Reeves was taken to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation and blood tests. He tested positive for cannabis, but no other drugs or chemicals, according to the lieutenants.

Reeves was slated to appear in Far South Side Felony Court at 727 E. 111th St. on the charges on Jan. 21.

When he comes down off the drugs ... would be interesting to ask him what of real voodoo he knows about ... or is it just the word "voodoo" he knows
