Auto-erotic III The North American International Auto Show is kicking off in Detroit this week and for the 3rd time in as many years, Im asking YOU what cars do it for u! The most exciting whip on my list for 2007 is the brand spankin' new CHEVY CAMARO! Have a look at some of the cars during GM's big fashion show this weekend. This is the first of many parties during Premier Week in Detroit. Here are some pix:
Jimmy Kimmel and the new CHEVY CAMARO. GO GO DANCER! Carmen Electra! The fabulous Jennifer Hudson walks the hell outta the runway with a spankin' new black Cadillac Escalade. There were TONS of celebs for this GM event including everyone from John Legend and Jay-Z to Vivica A. Fox to Christian Slater. Im gonna try to see if I can get tix to one of these parties.

Isnt she the bomb!? She has so much personality. The press core asked her why she thought GM paired her up with the new Escalade for the event and she replied: "Well...the Escalade is black, and Im black....the Escalade is big, and Im big....and the Escalade is fabulous and, well...IM FABULOUS TOO!" I couldnt do anything but smile.

THAT IS NOT A DAMNED CAMARO. it looks more like a revamped mustang to me. car designers nowadays need to quit while they're ahead.

While I'm always proud to see our Motor City this time of the year...showing off what made us who we are and what we do best...I can't help but think of things like this:
"The Detroit Big Three oligopoly is dead. It's gone," said McAlinden, noting that six or seven strong automakers are now fighting for big chunks of the market. That has profound implications for pricing, profitability and for the future of the UAW, which in 2007 will negotiate new contracts with three companies that no longer control even half of their home market. http://www.freep.com/apps...BUSINESS03 _____ Unemployment rate inches down But job losses in auto industry continue to keep state's rate above the national average. Louis Aguilar / The Detroit News The state's unemployment rate edged downward to 6.9 percent in October -- from September's 7.1 percent -- but remains among the highest in the nation and well above the U.S. jobless rate of 4.4 percent, the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth said Wednesday. Michigan, with an economy driven by the struggling U.S. auto industry, continues to bleed jobs at a time when most states are gaining employment. Last month, 6,000 Michigan factory jobs vanished, bringing the total number of factory jobs lost to 37,000 since October 2005, as the Big Three automakers continue to reel from global competition and slash tens of thousands of jobs. "There are still more layoffs in the auto industry coming," said Patrick Anderson, a Lansing-based economist, "while those are the ones that get the headlines, at this point the drip, drip, drip of other job losses are just as damaging to Michigan." http://www.detroitnews.co...148/AUTO01 For every one auto job lost in Michigan, four non-auto jobs are affected. This is the worst it's been for the Motor City and we are all probably watching the end of an era...a "permanent market shift" (as my boss calls it). Ford World Headquarters is located about a mile from my apartment and I've heard they're planning on cutting U.S. jobs from 80,000 to 10,000 (!) I pray we can bounce back from this...but, it's likely that the United States auto capital will be relocated to somewhere in Japan. [Edited 1/8/07 20:51pm]

Yeah, that new camaro isn't looking too hot,imo.....which I never really cared for them to begin with. I especially hate the fact that highway patrolmen use them. I've been stopped twice for speeding by two undercover ones in Camaros. Sometimes I panic when I'm meeting one on the road and I think it's one of them, but it ends up being just some regular person driving one. I feel the same way about Lincoln Continentals.....I get scared whenever one pulls up behind me and I think it's a cop, but it's just some old person driving one instead. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)
