Did you ever notice how easy it is to start a rumor on the internet... more specifically on this site?

A person can simply post some vague information... maybe put some fun stuff in their profile... maybe make simple references in posts without really saying anything... they can then sit back and see what happens!

It is quite fun!



Has anyone done this experiment? You know, creating a mystery and seeing how people react and what rumors might start?

Well, here's what I do: I form an opinion based on something I've read or heard somewhere - either a chat room or a chain e-mail - then i shoot off my mouth to anyone who will listen before verifying any of it or checking any sources regarding the accuracey of my information. This is The New Journalism, and boy does it make things easier. I can find websites that offer proof (some of it's even photographic!) of nearly any opinion or fact that I choose to express, so I just use them, combined with the e-mails I mentioned, to demonstrate to the internet world what a fucking genious I am and how fucked up everyone else is...especially famous people.

Ahhh, yes! I was part of a rumour starting frenzy on the Org a couple of months ago. I, and my co-conspirators (who shall go nameless in order to protect the not-so-innocent), started all sorts of BS threads about Tommy Lee becoming a JW, Larry Graham becoming a film producer/director etc. Many people were in on the joke, and even more joined in before it was all said and done. The whole point of the excercise was to try to get people to not take all this so seriously. Pointless rumours and crap abound on the internet, and there's just no point in getting too bent out of shape about any of them.

One of the rumours even got to John Blackwell!!!
