after seeing the huge steaming pile of shit that was the passion, i was already done with him forever.

and his horrid anti-gay and anti-jew sentiments over the years just add to that.

it is a very intense old fashioned action suspense endurance film as in Deliverence, Southern Comfort, even Conan the Barbarian.

was gripping for all the old but effective reasons.

Right down to the foeshadowing (the wild boar trap).

I really liked this film.
This has been the best movie I've seen this year.
But then again, since the year just started, it's the only movie I've seen this year.

I couldn't sit through the Passion. It was so unrealistic. Why bother with the realism of the language when you're going to cast a blue eyed Jesus and give the whole thing a fantasy feel ala Lord of the Rings?

But I admit I've heard only good stuff about Apocalypto.

Even if he's a racist I honestly would probably still see his movies if I thought they were brilliant. Most of my favorite artists have some MAJOR flaw. I prefer to separate the art from the artist. I believe fucked up artists can create perfect art.

I just don't like his movies, though.

i will concede it was well made: nicely directed and the cinematography was gorgeous. everything else about it i despised. what bothered me the most was the fact that stuff that was not biblically sourced was added and details were changed in the film to cast the jews as being complete villans, and people who claim to be christians believed that it was biblically sound, because many have never read the bible enough to know the difference.

as well, it was a hollow movie. there is no point to it. jesus being mercilessly tortured and killed isn't the point of christianity, his teachings are. the movie was nothing more than a 2 and a half hour snuff film of endless violence and a finger pointing at the jews in blame.

shameless propoganda...

but well directed.

it actually reminds me a lot of birth of a nation, as birth is the same thing. vile propganda of hate but well directed.

i liked his first, "man without a face". braveheart was over-violent and shameless in it's homophobia and altered historical fact to be so. passion was over-violent and shameless in it's anti-semitism and altered historical fact to be so.

couple that with his tirades against, well, pretty much anyone that isn't a straight white christian male, and...

the man isn't getting dime one outta me.

birth of a nation revolutionized film making. it was brilliantly directed, and the effects of it's changes in camera work are still seen today.

but it''s a despicable film with hatred and lies at it's core. same way i see the passion.

M.R. is the same as Mel. If Richards had said something funny, I'd be fine with him. He just wasn't funny, and being absolutely hilarious would be the ONLY way you could get away with saying that kind of nonsense.

If I liked Mel's movies I'd see them.

You guys say Mel Gibson is a racist, which is true.

But what about the rest of the other Hollywood people who portray Black, Arabs, Muslims and other people of color/religion in a bad light?

95% of the Hollywood movie industry in the past 7 years have been mocking and degrading the groups that I've mentioned endlessly. LOL And the reason why I picked the 7 last years becoz MILLIONS of "folks" claim that they're more open to new cultures, which is a damn lie.

Many movies I've seen the LAST year scream "Fuck Arabs" without saying so, nobody said jack. Folks to this DAY are defending Kramer.

But its funny when all hell broke loose over Mel. I agree that he deserved the backlash, but where were ya'll when all of that I mentioned happend?

I don't support his views, but at the same time I don't support double standard either.

i speak out against this wave of anti-muslim sentiment that has washed over america in the past few years all the time, and rather actively in the p&r forum, especialyl since there aren't a whole lotta folk over there who will stand up to it for one reason or another. i don't support movies that back up those lies either.

i try to be across the board about it.

if walt disney were alive today that man wouldn't get dime one from me either for his anti-semetic and racist points.

Hell yeah! That's why I got so pissed off over George Clooney's speech lauding Hollywood for leading the fight for racial equality. Is he f--king clueless or what? Since Birth of a Nation, Hollywood has regarded us as shiftless coons, mammies, pickaninies, bug-eyed savages, pimps, thugs and hos. The attitude of many Hollywood power-brokers hasn't changed much since D.W. Griffith's time. So Clooney can kiss my black MFing ass.

What's really sad is some of our people willingly promoting these negative images - just look at the current hip-hop videos.

I don't always agree with columnist Stanley Crouch's elitism and conservatism, but he nailed it when he referred to today's rappers as "modern-day minstrels".

I hate what Mel Gibson said and there is no excuse but I do have to confess that I saw the movie and I loved it.

I wanted to see it because it's part of my history. Somewhere down the line I'm connected to Mayan Indians. I thought the story, the costumes and the cinematography was out of this world. AMAZING.

That's cool that it is about your own ancestors! One of the reasons I want to see the movie is to get a glimpse of what life was like for the Mayans. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I saw it and thought it was great.

My girlfriend was a little freaked out by the violence but the movie made me think about it the next day.

I loved the little details and the fact that it doesn't matter what language something is in, we're all human and so is this story.
